(bright folk music) - The Bountiful Rotary Club is holding its 26th Annual Coats for Kids Charity Car Show.
It's dedicated to helping local children, and Krista Simonsen is here with all the details.
Hi, Krista.
- Hello.
- Thank you so much for being here.
- Thank you for having me.
- So 26 years, you've helped like 600 kids.
- Last year, we helped 600 kids.
- Just one year, - That's just one year.
- 600 kids, and the parents get vouchers so the kids don't have to know that they needed help.
- Yes, it's incredible.
In 1999, the Bountiful Rotary Club wanted to figure out what was a big event that they could do, and they wanted to help children.
So they went to the elementary schools, and they said, "what can we do?
"Let's talk to the principals."
Because the principals know what kids are in need, and so they said, "Let's help the elementary schools "in the South Davis area."
And so they decided to do a voucher program and how they were gonna pay for that was doing a car show, 'cause a lot of our members have cars, right?
- And the car show, you've got 85 cars this year in a parade down Main Street.
- We have 85 cars in a parade.
We've got probably 419 cars that will register to be in the show over two days.
So it's a two day event, June 14th and 15th, and it's huge, and it's so fun.
You have to come.
(laughs) - Yeah, you get 15 to 18,000 people watching it.
- We do.
Just in Main Street alone, we've had 15,000 people come to see this, because we have a parade, like you said, at six o'clock on Friday, June 14th, and then at seven-ish, we have a burnout, and that is in the center of town, and I'm telling you that what other town closes down Main Street and lets you burn out tires in the center of town?
It's incredible, it's incredible.
- Wow, and then June 15th is the picnic and music.
- June 15th in the park by the rec center in Bountiful.
It's kind of that lazy day when you can come look at cars, and they're parked, and there's a food court, and we have a patriotic program at noon with a skydiver that brings a flag, and we have two live bands.
It's just the best thing to bring your friends and family and come and eat, because all the proceeds go towards Coats for Kids.
- That is great.
Well, thank you so much, Krista, for being here.
Thank you.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about that big program that the Rotary Club does in Bountiful, 26th Annual Charity Car Show, June 14th and 15th.
It'll be on Main Street and Town Square, Bountiful and Bountiful City Park.
