(upbeat music) - BugFest is the Natural History Museum of Utah's sixth annual celebration of insects.
It happens August 8th, 9th, and 10th.
It's a fun educational festival for all ages, and here to tell us more is Lydia Hall from the museum.
Hi, Lydia.
Yes, you've got a lot of fun things with bugs going on.
- Yeah, we're very excited.
- Yeah, let's start with the night of the 8th and the film you're showing.
- Yeah, so we're gonna be showing an episode of the PBS documentary "Bugs That Rule the World".
We're gonna be showing an episode called "Eat or Be Eaten" about carnivorous insects, because our theme insect this year is the mantis.
So, we're trying to focus more on the interesting ecology of carnivorous insects.
That evening, we're going to have the filming, or, excuse me, screening starting at 8;30, and then we're going to wrap up with a speaker panel featuring an expert who is in the documentary itself, as well as other local experts.
- Oh, wow, great, great.
And then, I know the 9th and 10th, you've got all sorts of things happening.
- Yeah, traditionally, just like our other festivals like DinoFest and FoodFest, BugFest is in the weekend.
So it's gonna be all day Saturday and Sunday from 10 to five.
And we have lots of fun things for everybody.
We have workshops from local artists, we have vendors who have really cool bug art.
And also, this year, we are featuring lots of scientists.
We're gonna have lectures all throughout the day.
And we're also going to have interesting, some of our collections, some of our entomology collections will be available to see what you can't really see most of the time.
- Oh, wow!
You've got so much going on.
I know when I was looking at some of these workshops, like the beetle wing earrings.
- Yes.
Oh, I'm so excited.
I really wanna make myself a pair.
I'll see if I can sneak in.
It's going to be a lot of fun.
And this art is really fascinating because it allows us to look at the beautiful parts of insects, which we normally don't consider when we think of them.
And it's important to view them in this curiosity.
- Yeah, well, it's a great thing you're doing, and thanks for being here.
Thank you.
- Yeah, thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about everything happening with bugs, it's at, well, first, August 8th, 8:30.
It's "Bugs That Rule the World" and the talk.
And then, August 9th and 10th, you've got a lot more happening at the museum over the weekend, so be sure to go and read what's all happening, nhmu.org, nhmu.org.
I'm Mary Dickson.
Thanks for watching "Contact."
