(upbeat music) - The University of Utah's Go Learn program offers immersive travel experiences, blending education and culture.
Tim Slover and Jane England from the University of Utah's Department of Theater are here to tell you about upcoming trips.
Hi both.
Welcome.
- Thank you.
- Tim, let's kind of start with you and what Go learn means 'cause this is all part of Go Learn.
- You know, Aristotle said in the poetics, "To learn gives the liveliest pleasure," and that is the motto of our London trips.
We believe if you learn a little something about, say a play before you go, and then after the play is over, we all get together and talk about it, that enhances the pleasure of seeing the play.
- [Mary] Ah, definitely.
- And we do that with everything on the trip.
Art exhibitions, plays, historical sites.
It's all curated, really for the traveler and with people that know a little bit something about it.
- Yeah.
And I know, Jane, you get to do logistics.
I'm sure they all know you at all the box offices.
- You know, that's a wonderful part of this, planning these all these years is we've developed really great relationships with theaters and the hotel we stay at and restaurants.
And so I feel like the traveler really gets the benefit of many years of knowledge, and gets a really curated experience.
- Yeah.
And you cap it at 20, which is a nice number.
- It is.
And then Tim, you know all about theater.
- Well, I know enough that I can give a preparation for a play.
Often these are world premieres that we go to.
So sometimes I haven't even read the script, but we pick them because we know the authors, we know the playwrights, or it's a particularly fabulous actor, Juliet Stevenson's in a play we're seeing, Clive Owen is in a play we're seeing, and those people are worth going to.
And then we learn together really - Well yeah.
And I know you see a lot of great plays and you're going to Windsor Castle for Christmas, so wonderful.
You're gonna get people signing up right away, I'm sure.
Thanks for being here.
And if you'd like to know more about the upcoming trips, the one...
The Fall one's already about booked up, but sign up for the Christmas trip December 7th through 16th in London.
