It's been five years since the Iowa State cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes have bucked heads in a home and home series.
But those days are back and it's generating excitement in both camps.
I think that that just makes the sport better.
It creates more promotion for the sport, but also it gives us a chance to take out Iowa.
They're a great team and I have I have respect for them.
But also at the same point, I think that we're the upcoming team and I think if any teams are going to take out Iowa, it's going to be Iowa State's pride.
And it means who wants to be able to say, you know, they're the best?
And really what it comes down to, it is it's going to be it's going to be some hard fought matches in the trenches.
It's time to strap it on because it doesn't get any better than Iowa State and Iowa.
Their rematch is next on college wrestling and Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
Iowa Public Television Sports brings you the 20th anniversary of college wrestling take on the IOC's approved team in the country, Iowa State.
Well, it's crunch time in collegiate wrestling.
It's exciting time.
This is a great time for Iowa.
And I wanted to make the conference of the NCAA tournament.
And it's also the wrap up to our big 20th season of college wrestling.
We're going to give away those tickets to the NCAA.
As we announced our dream team at halftime, the ten outstanding wrestlers at the ten weights that you help pick.
And also at the end, we hope you stick around, too, because we'll have a special look behind the scenes at how this college wrestling series is put together.
You'll see some of the faces that you don't get to see on the camera as we do the Week series.
Now, I'll tell you what, we have a lot of great matches coming up.
And you mentioned rematches.
Well, I start right at 119.
Oh, we sure do.
And it's revenge time for a lot of Iowa State wrestlers.
Jason Murray One of the big surprises at 118 this year, Bobby Douglas loves leading out with Murray, but he hasn't been able to beat Mike Minner from Iowa.
It's the only wrestler that Murray hasn't beaten.
Look at that quickness by men.
That's what he's used all year long to get his number one ranking is great.
He can get those takedowns, stop the head and get around your chest like nothing like he does right here.
And that's why he's number one in the nation.
And then the next big rematch comes right after that.
At £126 between Pinson and McGinnis.
It's a point.
Great Rumble at 126 hits South Carolina when he was third nation.
But he couldn't be looking on the edge.
He was definitely the aggressor here.
He's got the inside position.
He's pushing him and he's up.
He's and he appears to be on top of his game right here, 140 to fight off his father.
In the rematch, Savage Affair.
Well, Monster is on a roll and all he's done is beaten the defending national titlist John Hughes a couple of weeks ago.
But he didn't beat Bill.
Daddy earlier this year is adequate that double leg controlling monster exotic wants a national championship.
You know it sounds an awful lot to him like we're saying once more that you have to be dialing in the lower weights if you're going to beat him at all.
Well, sure, it's murderers row.
I always got the best there in those first few weights.
But Iowa State isn't very far behind at all.
They're just a shade.
They're just a shade behind.
And if they could rise above themselves, have a couple of upsets, they'll be in it.
But that's a tough thing to do.
And Barbara, Hawkeye Arena, where the Iowa State cyclones have never beaten Iowa and where we're going to have a huge crowd here today to watch Iowa State cyclones wrestle the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Next on Iowa Public Television Center, where back at Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa, you see the seats are full right up to the top with the match between the Iowa State cyclones and the Iowa Hawkeyes in a series that Iowa leads 39 to 14, with two draws in the first week of the year.
And now we're getting back to double meets a year, 22 to 12 as the Iowa margin.
And let's take a look at the matchups here.
We told you about those great rematches, the 118 and 26 cut mark answer.
Who lost his last match the first of the year will be going against Derry, who was in there for the first time for Iowa State.
You know, television made monster and sidekick then outstanding people bone on at £150 and the upper weight two Hortons not not related Brad Horton against Williams and number one ranked Barnhart and you'll see a rematch Well didn't hit him and that's going to be interesting to see if he can find the answer to well pad it's against full heart at 190 and he knock against somebody Christensen or John Diggle at heavyweight.
We'll have to wait and see what what Dan Gable is inclinations are when we get up a little bit closer to that.
There's Bobby Douglas.
What a amazing wrestling career this fellow has had, both as a competitor, as a coach, as a scholar, and wrestling too.
He knows he knows so much about and has written books about it.
And there's Dan Gable.
Nothing left to be said about this man.
The most amazing coaching career, 20 years, 20 lots.
That's just an astounding thing.
And there he is trying to get this young man, Mark.
Mike better sparked up from his first match against Jason Murray.
Jason Murray has gotten over the hump against everybody but man up 31 to 2 this year, but he just hasn't been able to get better.
Lost his last match off Danny Felix in Arizona State.
Well, Felix has been a kind of a problem for many for a long time, but to have to actually get over the hump in the meeting was a big win.
And in Arizona State.
And I'm sure that this was a wake up call for Mike Bennett.
And this is going to be a good match right here.
Murray knows what he needs to do.
He needs to slow the match down.
He needs not to get underneath Minamino needs to open up and take it to him in the way that he knows that he can.
But Nouri is a very strategic wrestler, done a great job of slowing matches down against people like men, and this would be a real strategic match.
And the referee is Keith Bowman of Charles City, Iowa.
You've seen him as a referee.
If you watch college wrestling very much at all.
Here is his man in a front headlock.
He tends to punish people who shoot at him at the legs, and Nouri knows that you have to score against man and he has not been able to do it successfully this year.
Well, very few wrestlers have been able to score against men.
He's very hard to score against.
I mean, it's almost impossible.
Felix took him down just with a few seconds left against the in the Arizona State meet and one of the few wrestlers that's able to break through the hands and actually get to the hips and legs of Mike minute there he tried again on the shot and has cut off by manner he was trying to work that to that front headlock position on Marlon Underhook with the elbow and the referee Keith Logan calls it off again.
One thing that men are very would like to do is get a few shots in and get the referee thinking about calling, stalling against Mina right there, keep him off his back because stalling could come into play in this in this match.
If Nouri is successful in not letting Mina get a takedown, you know, Tim, the two coaches here, Douglas Campbell, each prepare their wrestlers for individual matches and individual wrestlers about as well as anybody.
They know exactly what they think, what they want to do when they go out there, what their plan is.
They are very carefully schooled.
It motivates you.
I think that's exactly what Jason Nehring needs to do.
He needs to know how he's going to wrestle.
Every 32nd sequence right here against Mike.
Nose needs to know what he needs to what he needs to be at, like at the end of the first period.
If he could go without a takedown, that'd be a victory for Nouri.
Be right where he needs to be.
Man 18 And to still has not made any successful shots until right there.
But a great counter by Nouri.
We don't have any scores yet.
There it is.
The two points on the edge of the man.
A counter was not the trick that time.
He actually made the shot while men right here gets an opening in on the leg right here.
Got ahead to the outside, is going to try to cut off that before he can cut off.
There you see Nouri rolling through, but now controls his head and his hips and got to points, make it work.
Make it work.
We had that happen with about a minute left in the first period, the three minute first period.
So no points each other period is 2 minutes to go.
And there's the escape for Jason.
Nouri makes it 2 to 1.
Now see what happens when man opens up right there on the leg.
He all he had to do is cut off.
Didn't quite get a cut off.
That's a nice counter.
But you're right.
You got to step.
So it's Nouri against Mike, man, at 118 palms.
This time, Benham was not able to drop in there and he's making shots.
Well, that's why Nouri needs to slap at the leg every once in a while to keep the referee off him right there.
And it's a very like we said, he's got strategy right here.
And it can't you can't let man in on him.
It's going to be awful hard for him to take Maina down.
All right.
There was one line at the end of the match.
Yeah, man.
I would like to be able to have that back in a away and have it with about 40 seconds.
And I put over 2 seconds left and, you know, I think as much as anything else, Jason Nouri has had to get over a lot of physical humps.
You might say in his career.
He's now made himself strong and solid.
Now he needs to get over that mental health.
Well, that's that's exactly right, Doug.
And, you know, in his mind, he's all the way to the NCAA finals.
Who will decide whether he has to see men or not on the way.
But it's just one man in Nouri's mind that he's got to get through and he just hasn't been able to break through on Mike Bennett yet.
And here's one more chance.
And then it tends to get stronger as the match goes on, even on the leg.
Again, that same shot at the right leg of Nouri.
Well, one minute gets on offense.
That is the takedown.
There's no one in the country that can beat him because he's as hard as there is to take down.
He's got fantastic defense.
He scores off other shots.
But when he's going, he's attacking.
He's a complete wrestler and there's no other wrestler that can really stay with it.
It's funny that that's tick off.
Danny Feliks at Arizona State is giving him trouble a couple of times this year.
It was a close meet.
The first match.
The first time.
The second time meant a loss.
And you know, it's funny that those things happen.
Probably if Mike Minter hears a replay here at the Underhook into the leg now and he's going to keep the hips tight to him and then get the hips underneath, dump him down to the mat for the two points.
But as far as Phenix is concerned, you're probably going to if you talk to Coach Gable, you'd find out that Mike Minter didn't wrestle.
His match, wasn't offensive.
They stood around, did nothing, hand fight, and he allowed Danny Phenix to stay in the match.
I think Mike Mendez on if he opens up and he's on his offense.
Phenix Somebody else couldn't keep him the way he's been today.
Where 40 seconds, Take it down.
Third grade.
He got robbed.
He rode Nery until he had a minute of time on top know piled up.
And that's a potential point at the end of the match, if one wrestler or the other has the minute.
Well, you know, again the third straight time he's gone in the lap was on the edge of the mat and Nouri has to bridge to stay at the pin.
He may have been hurt in that slam.
As a matter of fact, but he's trying to stay off his back and that is a big win for him.
Look, I would say there's no mental block for Minner with nearly four.
What a big win that was.
Boy, he just shook by.
Got it on the leg.
Now he cut off, trapped the arm right down to his back and held it back.
And so is Iowa six, an Iowa state?
Nothing at 185.
That's not the way Iowa State wanted to get off.
Certainly wasn't there.
He started taking the shots, but man, I made the last four or five and they all paid off.
Oh, we're going to go to 126 between Jeff McInnis and Dwight Hanson against the defending national champion.
Now right here behind the abyss of Penn State, Dwight Hanson's rank three Hanson tends to be in a lot of close matches and even the wrestlers.
He was a lot better than they are or not much better.
He beat them 4 to 2, you know, and something like that.
And he doesn't want to do that against McGinnis because the last match, McGinnis had the only takedown.
While McGinnis is so comfortable in his on his feet on the mat, he won about everything last year at the NCAA.
But the fastest pin he was, he won the most pins.
He's the champion of champions.
He won the NCAA title and he won at all last year.
And he had a wake up call a few weeks ago getting beat by Bobby Crawford from Clarion.
And now he's on his way back to try to claim his second as a junior.
HANSON As we talk to Freshman of the year, he's a redshirt sophomore out of Oklahoma and he was freshman of the year finishing third in the NCAA.
And they've started a rivalry that the fans have enjoyed watching, but Hanson has not been able to break through against Regis for the way comes up with it very nicely.
Now, what does he do with it when you see how good an athlete Hanson is in that defensive position, he does.
What Hanson wants to do is keep the weight down.
He just did a good job there.
Boy, that's the way Jack McGinnis had a great shot.
That was a good shot that showed what Iowa's playing is next to attack.
There's Tony Ortiz on the left.
Assistant Coach Hanson is going to have to make some attacks himself.
He got he lost that last one and he almost lost one at Iowa State with some penalty points because he got some late in the meet in the match.
Yeah.
The only scoring the penalty points and escapes Jackson a minute and a half gone in a three minute first period.
The tie up is so important for these people.
Supreme feels he controls the tie.
That's what he wants to use.
That time has put his opponent in a position once I'm comfortable.
Well, McGinnis is so talented there as he is.
The only thing that holds him back is when he holds back because there's nothing he can't do.
He needs to open up on his feet, just like you saw him do all year.
And since he can do it all, he's dangerous.
When he's on top of his game, Hanson is managing to fight off McGinnis as well As you guys center up.
But he still hasn't made an attack of his own.
And Gable in his 20th season going for his 20th Big Ten championship and 14th NCAA championship.
Get your head in position.
45 seconds to go in the first period.
Get ready to get ready.
You know, we're only a second match, but here we go.
I was on the attack pushing.
Yeah, and you're right.
Hanson's got to start making some moves here so that he can not only get himself back, but he can get Bobby Douglas and the Iowa State team into in into this meet after a big loss at £118 like man up in January in 4 minutes and 47 seconds with 13 seconds left in the first and the second period tied up in the middle, the only major shot was made by McGuinness and Hanson for Hanson fought it off very nicely.
But let's improve on it, improve on it.
McGuinness Working to the inside, looking under hooks, both sides.
He's he's pommel and he's got the he's got a throw position right here and he's ready to he's ready for action and he's ready to create action.
And it appears that Hanson's ready to react.
There's the end of the first period.
It's just zeros zero.
Hanson Got it.
Hanson has his choice.
He will take down.
That's because his head gear is coming down right there.
And he has to take it three time right now to your choice.
Back on.

Iowa State against Iowa Keith Coleman referee is supervising Bobby Douglas's re a tiring Dwight Henson who can't find a headgear to fit how much 45.
Here's the fall by Mike Minter who was on the attack from the get go.
There's the fall over Jason NEARY big win, big way to get out.
Carter Hot guy, all the fans.
Yes.
That's what, a 48 pounders, all this team.
AUSTIN Why?
HANSEN Tim has a headgear that he likes, but he used some injury time there.
He had to take injury time to make those equipment changes come here, set, and they start the second two minute period.
Henson had his choice star spot him and he jumped too quickly.
So as he felt he was near him, he jumped back.
Caution against Yes, here we go.
Henson on the bottom in he dropping him on the whistle.
McGuinness is a well known outstanding writer.
Well, he is good.
He's good at every phase of his game.
Like I've used the word comfortable a lot.
But you'd better be comfortable when you get in situations like this.
But he would like to score here off a tilt or something.
And this is where Henson needs to control coming up and be able to get McGuinness caught high and get out.
But what McGuinness is doing right here is making him some work and great generating time.
So you see McGuinness switch legs.
Crabbe Right, right there, you know, bring it back into style.
He brought it down.
John McGuinness with the rest is like this.
He's focused and that's one thing McGuinness has to do as he points out, to win again the NCAA ways this year against S.a.b.
and the best resource he needs to be focused all the way in.
He can beat most wrestlers without being focused on his feet with the hands, but the down on the way goes with it.
Oh, he's a good rider.
He's he's doing a great job right here.
He's controlling the hips.
He's he's really put the pressure on Henson.
I'll tell you again, Henson is getting himself in a box here.
He needs to get out.
He also, as you guys asked a minute to, right in time.
Right.
Well, he's got to escape that.
And Bobby Douglas knows that Henson's key to success to win a national championship is he's got to be able to escape.
Here we go.
Guys.
Made a lot of progress this year, but hasn't been able to get past his nemesis, McGuinness, and he's going to have to get past him to win an NCAA title, that's for sure.
He's still a shade behind him.
What I'm trying to tell, trying to tilt to the back and he got two near-fall points.
He got the near part.
But here comes Henson reversal here from the stadium to stay on it right there and get the reversal right there.
He'd like to be able to stay stay on it for 28 seconds but McGuinness gets out now to give credit to Henson.
He got out but not before looking to score two very important points here, some very important points here for.
So McGuinness used his right arm just right.
He used it and he got points and he nullified, actually pointed out the two points that Zach hits and got for his reversal and they're back on their feet again, worried about.
Well, you see the clock there right hand corner of your screen In the third period, McGuinness will be down right Right.
And have a chance to get out.
He made the two after that second period.
Okay.
Here's how you get out of the legs.
You got to control the legs and then control the hips.
And that's what Henson did.
He got the legs and he used them against his opponent.
Now has a minute.
9 seconds of riding time, by the way, in 11 seconds.
So right in time, Henson starts on top.
He wanted to he raced out right in time, but he couldn't do it.
You can't do it any faster than that.
He was able to get a nice short set and face Henson We're talking about McGuinness Jeff McGuinness, the defending NCAA wrestling champion going up against Henson, trying to beat him for the second time this year he's up for two two with a potential point setting up on the board there to him right in time.
Well yes, he has to be as a manager.
He gets the right in time.
Now we know what Henson has to do.
He has to find an opening in attack.
And he can't do that just with his head buried in there.
He's got to create the opening again.
This isn't good for him.
They both work off this tight lockup.
They're both comfortable with that.
They are Henson right there needs to get more lateral movement.
Just get more movement altogether, get some flurry going or something.
Because you saw that he was able to get the reversal when he was from underneath.
He needs to get something going so that they're scrambling all over.
Now, that's not to say McGuinness isn't good at scrambling.
He's great, but you got to give yourself a chance.
And right now, without without any movement, a hand fighting and creating those movements, Henson is giving himself a chance.
Pick it up, guys.
Action.
Waiting for the perfect position.
But he's not likely to get it against McGuinness.
And it's now two to nothing.
Come on up by 4 to 2.
A two point lead for McGuinness with less than a minute to go.
45 seconds in this £126 matchup and Iowa won the first one on a fall.
Lock it up, Lock it up Florida to McGuinness try to get it across 35 again you just think that Dwight Henson needs to create more that's been created right here to win a match he's down 4 to 2 got effectively three points and he's dancing Well it's going to have to come up a versatility in his repertoire so he feels comfortable in more positions.
He's really got his warning against both people very clear.
And we have less than 10 seconds to go.
McGuinness cuts off what looks like the last shot from Henson and he wins for two 5 to 2.
That's it, guys.
Shake it off like 5 to 20 for Mike quite himself.
And as we said after the one that cracks the armor of the Iowa halftime, we're going now to £134 with Mark outside of the Hawkeyes, who lost his last match and he did not like it.
I imagine that's the word.
Go again.
Coach Gable is turning into an animal.
This is a Jason Dairy.
You're looking at a young man from Woodward, Iowa, not 2000.
He redshirted at Drake in his first year transfer to Iowa State in 1993.
Second semester, he finished high in the top six, three times in the state mates in his high school years and he's had a winning record since he's been at Iowa State, but he's not been in these big meet.
So we've seen on college wrestling.
So it's the number one ranked Mark Ironside out there who just lost a toughie in Arizona to Steve Saint John chuckling Yes, against Jason Terry.
There's Ironside right on the edge of the mat.
Nothing yet out of my locker from 9:00.
But as we said, that loss probably just served as a proverbial wake up call for Mark Ironside, who's been known to waste a little time in the first period.
Sometimes.
And I doubt if he's going to waste time tonight.
He got beat by Steve Saint John, who beat him last year in the NCAA.
Eric, nice shot right outside.
Fatal.
Yeah.
He needs to come up now.
He needs to come up with it.
Not let Ironside settle down get his weight on top of like that left left leg.
You get his hips Hunter Gary needs to get his hips underneath him.
Not can't turn into the hips for three or five.
Stalemate.
Stalemate.
But Derek at least proves to himself that he can reach Ironside.
Mark is 25 and one.
He's won some big matches.
I won against Cherry Cola.
Here comes Gary again with a high cross this time.
And he took Ironside down.
Yeah, it's great.
Yeah, it was great.
That's how Mark Ironside came into the world of wrestling.
And so it's great to see that kind of enthusiasm and attack by the Iowa State Wrestling.
Here comes Ironside, a two reversal, 3 to 2.
I think a young Jason Derry got his attention.
Yes, he did.
That was a great shot by Derry, going in on Ironside, getting the two points and just kind of make an iron.
All right, Ironside, man.
That's right.
I gave him a reversal.
I meant take down.
Of course, after the escape.
You knew that everybody in Carver Hawkeye Arena know it.
When we're watching the Hawks Against the Cyclones, the 20th anniversary of college wrestling with Tim Johnson.
I'm Doug Brown over at £134.
Iowa leads nine to nothing, and Mark Ironside is riding hard against Jason DeRose.
Tip him over for one tackle.
So what he's doing is exposing Gary's back to the mat past 45 degrees, and he picked up two points for back point.
He couldn't hold it for 5 seconds, but he got an air fall, 5 to 2.
What Ironside will do to most of his opponents is wear him down.
Well, he did that with Gary Coleman and the coaches meet the all star made caller look like he looked right unbeatable against King Kong in the first minute.
But there are 7 minutes in a wrestling match at halftime.
Signs one that's not a slam.
And right here, here's a scramble right here.
You take that situation that Mark Ironside came around and got the two points to make.
Two go ahead, 3 to 2.
Back to Ironside jumps in.
Choice was to start up and Ironside decided not to wait around for anybody to come after him.
He's going to just dive in for the takedown.
And he did.
You're out, you're out.
You're up first.
Get ready.
That's 1722723.
After the escape, Darrin Phillips is making shots.
Yeah, he's making shots.
He's coming after you.
It's a good action by Derry right here.
And he's not letting the crowd intimidate him.
But what he does have a tough time doing is get up past the arms of Gibson Mark Ironside.
He knows that there that he's not going to win back in a way.
Nice to see that.
He knows that.
But here comes Ironside.
He slipped a little bit on the way in and gave Dave Derry a chance to get a defensive possession.
They're going to get a stalemate situation here, probably three or three full and letting it go for a while because he thinks that Ironside is improving his position, all of it, which he is keenly watching.
You know that up and up that's to take down right there to there it is 9 to 3 takedown for Ironside.
See you, buddy.
On a counter there.
Ironside was able to get his position back.
He was flat on his belly here.
He had a good situation there to try to get a stalemate.
Ironside never gave up, kept pulling his hips underneath.
He came up and was able to get around for two points drop, put a lot of pressure on him.
He's controlling the risk.
He goes in near risk.
He goes far risks.
He keeps the pressure on him all the time.
And that's what the Iowa wrestlers always do.
You know, you got to you got to ask the question, when do they win?
Are they passive?
They're not.
They just up go and then boom, right here on him again with the double you live on the floor after his fourth takedown to.
Oh, he's just taking it to Jason you got to come on And Jason Terry was just one for being an actor.
And what's interesting there is you're underneath and you're being overpowered.
What are you supposed to do, Jason?
Larry saying go, give me a break.
That's right.
Sometimes it's not stalling.
It's just being overpowered.
And in this situation, I think that's what's happening.
Ironside picked the third down, so in the second period, Joe Darien felt his best chance was on top.
Ironside gets away 12 to 4 now comes in for another shot at the legs.
Here he comes.
That's 214.
That's all.
Jason Derry what two high school at Dowling and West Point is in the lineup.
You know the cyclones have been hurt this year by having lost out practically for the entire last month or two.
I thought it might be the best year for all America, 134 guys who's been injured and they are still hoping that getting back for the Big East tournament is back.
They hope that he can.
He's got a couple more weeks, three more weeks actually, to rest up.
And they hope that young man back in the lineup, he's a senior and that's 14 to 5 after the neutral position goes to Derry.
Again, he made a shot.
Missed it.
I think they're back right there.
That's to 16 to 5 now for Ironside.
Now.
Yeah, that's neutral.
Neutral makes it 6 to 6.
Here comes Ironside, 18 to 6.
Now the question is time.
People like to put Barry on his back once he's got the half to a rolled out of it.
Just for the moment.
Got the going away on his back inside leg position there.
The old Navy right on it.
That can make a difference.
Well, it's just a matter of survival now for Derry right here and going inside, trying to catch Chin and Underhook.
There it go.
Because he knows if he scores one green one and that is going to be the end to Chuck 21 to 6 makes it 15.
Yes, that's it.
That's it, guys.
That's a match.
Termination 15 points.
His race for the that young man obviously irons right on top of his game right Number one Jason Guthrie he's going to be there for the Iowa State cyclones and you gave him a game effort.
He's a good young wrestler, 13 to nothing from Arkansas Hawkeyes as he goes out to settle down.
Little man Oh, here's Iowa State wrestler Graham says, Now I'm the guy.
You have to go back on track.
And this is Derek Lancer, fourth ranked in the top three seniors on all he did a couple of weeks ago was beat.
John Hughes was the defending champion.
That's something if those addict was not able to do earlier, but Alec has only lost two matches this year and one of them actually was not a collegiate match against a John Fisher.
Right.
That's, you know, the only one that he lost that he doesn't like talking about his monster here.
That's right.
And so that's probably what's motivated him right to this point.
This ought to be a good one, Zach, to very much offensive mind wrestling there goes monster and on the leg lobs here is a pinner you know he has 24 wins this year and 11 of them by far he can make it happen but he's got to catch you to do it.
It will be hard to catch first period at £142.
And these are two seniors.
Yep, it's Derek Monsters.
Time to get it right.
Senior all-American two years ago.
Missed it last year.
Big disappointment for him.
It's time to get it right out of bounds, Guy and he's a hard working young man.
Just now is the time.
Well, this is the last chance of the last year for each of them to win an NCAA title.
And here they are going up against each other.
Front headlock position for a monster who likes to work from that likes to work from that.
And his key right there is he needs to get great position.
He needs to move more laterally and control where he's going, but he can't just go straight forward and score on the likes of that.
Saddiq does pretty well.
He's got an arsenal of moves.
He great variety.
He's he's got it all.
He could do low singles, doubles, high crotch He does upper body throws.
And so you've got to be aware of how dangerous those attack is.
Monster nice little shot by Saric nice shot and monsters on his hips which is not good it's Ken Cohen's that he trapped the hips and cut across whether it's with his arm or with his body.
If he can trap the hips and cross he's going to have to.
If Monster can keep scooting and scooting and scooting around, he can avoid or get a stalemate, just like this guy is.
Good shot.
But it wasn't complete.
Buzzati took a lot of minute 15 to go here in the first attempt, three minute first period at 140 to 1 down here.
It's kind of got a Gumby style.
And he just showed that right there.
You might think you have him taken down and you don't until the referee calls to his problem, as you've said in the past, has been letting matches sometimes get away from him late.
Right.
He's won a couple of late here.
Go against Minnesota.
He beat Jason Davis, who is a rated wrestler in the last minute, got him got Jason Davis on his back after trailing early down down there.
Improve on it last half minute of the first period again that front headlock for hard half hour to say what monster sometimes he stops wrestling just for a few seconds sometimes in the match he's got to keep his focus go the whole time.
We know he's got the shape, we know he's got ease.
He doesn't give up anything easily.
He's just got to keep his focus for 7 minutes.
There's a counter by Zada and he's got to right at the end of the period, 19 minutes, 19 seconds left today.
That's what he was looking for.
A beautiful counter got elected.
You like to make the shots.
Somebody can't shoot back at you.
And that's just what happened right here.
Every time, right?
He 19 seconds with a takedown.
I say I want to do a roll.
And that it almost stopped him in the middle of it.
At that point, he couldn't get it done to do nothing.
The first a monster shot and then a re shot into the leg by he cut off for two points.
They really go back to the now set up for the second periods.
Attica.
Tommy ended up with his chance and he's going down the bouncer holding side to side on top to break it down.
Rick That's down.
Rick Hands down his right pants down.
It's down.
You hear the coaches go break your hips down.
As long as your hips are up, you've got a chance.
Get out right here.
He's monster has got hand control.
But Jannik was just able to break that.
He had his hips underneath him.
He had his power.
He broke the hands.
Boom.
He had one point.
Now, the riding time advantage for Zadig is 5 seconds that he's got the pressure on him.
He's ahead now, three zero.
He's got a takedown.
It was not answered at the end of the first period.
He's got to escape at the beginning of the second period.
He's got the pressure monster, big time monster has got to make them go.
He's got to move side to side.
He's got to create openings and move.
That's going nice.
You back it off.
And that's just one more thing that Bobby Douglas isn't going to smile about is now it's his wrestler who's behind on the edge of the mat getting called.
Now, there was a good shot, but he was able to just get to it, not through the man in the front headlock, this time for Bouncier.
He's been able to use it to no advantage so far.
Zadig takes him out here in a situation and then gets into something.
You're right right here statically it's three nothing.
Derek Monster from Newton, Iowa.
Let's go here all-American.
Two years ago they're going Oh, nifty double leg right at the edge of the mat by Millsap.
Well, okay.
He's pointing right now to the wrapping.
It's over his right eye.
He was injured in the Midlands and it keeps reopening.
But watch this edge of the mat on the ankles.
Got to both toes in two points.
I don't think he scored.
At the end of the first period, he scored on the edge of the mat.
It's not just bills that he gets a high, guys.
That's why they're number one.
The £31 Gable's people look like they're ready to wrestle today before this big crowd.
They look like they're ready to wrestle all the time.
Yeah, they do.
But especially today, I'd say.
Here's a reminder that after the £150 match will bring you a final totals of our college wrestling dream team voting, and we'll be drawing the name of the lucky viewer.
We'll get two free all session tickets to the year's NCAA championships.
And we'll also preview the high school wrestling title fight, which will take place next Saturday night.
We'll have it live here on Iowa Public Television.
And also we'll look at the statistics from the first half of tonight's meet.
That's all coming up.
After £150, that's the first take out of the meet scored by Iowa State.
Okay, You got it.
Hey, no, I wasn't there.
Mike met.
I was my second page with Jason there with Jason Terry.
And I believe that's the only one that I think is the only one the only take down so far Jason Dairy against Mark Ironside, who ultimately won a match termination by beating him by more than 15 points yesterday.
I have a setup in Derek Hobbs here on the bottom to start with 35 seconds to go in the second period, Static just took him down on the edge.
That's good, right?
Short switch right there and turn in.
That monster gets the 1.4 escape, making the score 5 to 1 in favor of bills attic record breaker for us throw that's your game we're talking about the injury for his attic It's just a stitches that just keep reopening He heard it in the midlands and they just keep reopening and so it looks like he's got those wrappings for for the duration solid position kept by exotic in confront outs has not been able to reach in to score 5 to 1 saw talent the only point out an escape right now at the end of two periods.
Dan Gable has to be pleased with what he's seen so far that 2 minutes to go between monster ends, attic run Monster starts bottom.
Yet one guy got his hips underneath him.
Monster did got to hand control.
Now he's back in a situation 5 to 2 where he's got the opportunity to get right back into the match.
He's going to have to he's got to create openings.
He can't, you know, as we say, to stand in front of Tyson, you got to get to the side.
You got to find angles, you got to find your openings.
And that's one thing that monster's going to have to do to get past that.
He can win a national title or a tough double leg.
But oh, how did he get out of that one?
Hip action right there by Zadig.
That was a great double leg.
But the action was big hit by Zadig.
Holy cow.
He got in there awful tight.
Jannik showed a lot of power breaking that and the front headlock after his shot.
But Monster has not been able to score with it in any way.
Improve it to Alex is so strong and critical in the position up there one green and there's a point for improve on it because monster wasn't doing anything with it.
He had the front headlock and he was just sitting there seeming like he was just trying to keep the max.
There we go.
Limbo there.
The Russell where he could have been moving side to side, creating the opportunity for a shuck throw by go behind something 6 to 2 now, no riding time advantage for either man.
45 seconds to go in the match at 142 and the Hawkeyes are rolling on.
Jack, you got to go.
Got to go.
Let's go.
Now.
Let's go to random dirt.
And again, Tadic is quicker off the mark.
Well, Monster tried to snap him down as happened right down into the leg.
Now what he's going to try to do is attack right here.
Just keep him on the mat.
20 seconds to go for points.
But I think that monster is going to be able to go and do the splits yet enough.
Keep it two points.
But this is this is a position that was not actually helping Zach, whether he gets the takedown, not because time is running out.
No right in time advantage 6 to 2 score and again Bill's it puts Dave Mark on third share of Iowa State 622 and his last match as a senior Iowa senior was out in style right there all these fans and the Hawkeyes roll 60 tonight but here in a battle between Iowa State and Iowa.
Now let's go to 150.
And here, Iowa State has the second ranked wrestler of the country, Chris Paul had a tremendous year.
He took over big fight before that.
Last time he wrestled the score was 11 before.
You're right, Dan Gable's been working on him to try to set him up to wrestle against Bono, who is an energy machine writer, about that, Chris Bowen, who likes to go and he's improved so much, He's, you know, he's got that high ranking.
He's in there and he's got his whoa.
And there he took a nice shot.
Underhook He was able to get the underhook flip it over there and cut behind for two points.
He's a hammer.
Mike Uga's good young wrestler, although UConn since the since the Midlands, he's on the beginning of minutes.
He's only six and six.
He started out ten tenino in his last 12 matches.
He's just gone.
Even so, it's a yeah, from, from a standpoint of how the wrestlers are going, it's kind of a mismatch because Chris Bono is on his way up.
His only loss is coming through and he lost three matches to Hughes out of four.
And it all came down to whoever won the coin toss all in the second overtime right.
And whoever got to pick down got out.
Hughes won the coin toss three times and got out of bounds.
Guys, take that bottle, got out once and look at this.
He's got the Underhook right there.
He's switching over.
If he were to cut the chin right there over hook a little half Nelson action, he might have driven you right to his back.
One thing you see wrestling hard sometimes you see somebody that can go hard in the first or second period, like we talked about Cory collapse, but this guy looks like Chris Bono looks like this in the third period.
He's like Ironside.
He just keeps after you.
So you've got to have it strapped on and ready to go.
If you're Mike you got now it breaks you care down on the edge of the mat with a minute and a half to go in the first period.
Bono on top leads by two down there, out of bounds.
Break down gear, break down.
One more.
Step three, go quick move by Booker on the whistle.
But going off still has him and now breaks it down flat again.
Actually, last time these two met, it was a close match for a while and Bono just wore it down and start getting a couple of takedowns in the last period.
Right now, he's even controlling you more than he did in the last match, but he is in good shape to Bono now.
Lets him go.
He has a minute and a half a right in time and he's going to try to go to work on the feet again while he's controlling the head right here, trying to destroy the position of Uther.
And boy, when you start getting your way in control like that, you send in the wrestler, your opponent down to his knees.
Then you open up things like that.
All right, back to two points.
Now.
Oh, great job.
Good job.
By euchre, they're keeping it from him.
But the way Chris Bono did that was he had control and ahead he stepped it down.
And then the opening came for the slam controlling the head.
Tim says bang on the head.
Now he's got the front headlock again right time ticking away in the first period there in the corner, keeping a lot of pressure out there.
Oh, right at the end, power the penalty points make you through right there because Chris Bono is keeping all the pressure on Luther.
It just a little lapse there and Uber is able to drop down.
Now what now?
Right now he needs to ride him out.
Couple down, big takedown, 25 seconds left.
It really was.
We have a warning.
Okay.
Warning against occurred just before that.
Just before that.
Now, with 4 seconds to go, Bono would like to answer that takedown, but I'm not sure he has time.
He doesn't Big takedown and oh, look it right here.
Uka used a little head control himself, dropped down the legs, cut Chris Bono with his feet together, dropped down, got the two points, big, big points for a couple of reasons.
One, they put Hooper back in the match.
He's ahead 3 to 2 to in his head right now.
He thinks he can do it.
That's a big, big turnaround for him to be down there now.
Right in time aplenty for Bono.
But he still is going to try to crank on you if you're here.
I think him make him work.
He lets him off.
He's gonna have to probably take him up on his feet to score the points he needs, but he's willing to try down there as long as he has Hooper flat.
He proved me wrong last week when we were in trouble, you and I.
And I said that he doesn't pin that much.
Chris.
Chris Bono came up with the big fall away.
Let's go super go nuts.
iTunes or Bono has writing pad.
Oh, and he just made a nice shot again on the edge.
The accent was too close.
We shot.
He likes me, he says.
You know, some people say I'm short and I have a disadvantage.
I turn it into positive.
I think there's a lot of advantages of being short.
And he says Ortiz helps him a lot with his technique in the room.
Tommo teaches tall, and so he's able to show him what the tall guys can do and can't do.
And he says he gives a lot of credit for team with him, pushing him and motivate them, make him the better wrestler that he's become for playing.
No, there's two points.
There's two.
I was down for Bono ties the match on the board for 4 seconds Great pressure but there's Tom Ortiz right there wrestled for Bobby and it was all American at Arizona State and that was his assistant here at Iowa State.
Our guys, Bobby Douglas, of course, being the coach of a national championship team at Arizona State, lets him go and he's willing to stand up here and he thinks he can score up here, although he trails right now to four.
And we know, Mike, you can can score now.
Can he go 7 minutes?
We know Bono can look it down.
Bono working off the front time front headlock.
That's where you could kick this.
He got his head down on the mat and he let him go around there.
He just let him go around, you know, Of course, that's a lot easier said than done.
He doesn't feel like he let his body quit on him.
He wasn't able to keep the pressure it stay in front of Chris Bono.
Chris Bono's relentless 6 to 5 in favor of Chris Bono of Iowa State, who has if he wins here being the first two Iowa State points, there's something protecting his form and stops it.
That's Chris Bono with a headlock right here.
He's able to use Chris Bono.
Can't put a head on the mat.
As soon as he got the head on the mat, he was around time in Newkirk trying to roll.
This time.
We have the attendance, by the way.
Great.
You guys look very nice.
You should.
Third period now at the end of Terrace, Bono, up 6 to 5.
That's good.
God, Tennis is paying out 11,679 people here at Carver Hawkeye Arena this afternoon to watch the cyclones against the Hawkeyes and the Hawkeyes lead 16 to nothing.
Bono was underneath there starting this period almost.
Sue play action.
There you go, Mike Newkirk, Let's go get one up.
Get up.
Six two, five.
Effectively 7 to 5.
Writing time in the favor of that man right there, Chris Bono.
So like, Joker got that takedown by the end of the first period, which has really kept him in.
Yeah, it's exactly right that through the middle now it's 7 to 5 in favor of Bono.
He does have riding time.
Well, they're both out, but the match is still done, whoever wants it for a number of reasons.
One, that takedown in right there.
Chris Bowen, trying to put icing on the cake.
This is what happened last time there was a center.
Bono is able to keep the pressure on.
He started making Newkirk look a little silly because he was able to just push, push, push, and you couldn't answer minute and a half to go.
There's, again, Dan Gable, 9 to 6 after the the shot, you know, the hips.
He says, Let me do it again.
I like on the feet because Bono says, You think this to seven.
He just took the leg that was looking at him right there and he's going to get another take to take the seven.
That leg was planted.
Yuca was planted on his on his leg right there.
And he just almost gave it to Chris Bono.
The body isn't reacting to him right now.
He wants to do one thing.
His body says this is the sort of thing that Iowa wrestlers do.
Other people and here Chris Bono shows why he's ranked so high.
Chris Bono really doing the job right here to do keeping the pressure on.
You don't it's hard to imagine or even think of a time that Chris Bono isn't going after you, is it?
Getting after you?
And that's the way mostly I Iowa restaurants are, Chris Bono fits that mold right there.
That's why that's what the coach wants from every one of his wrestlers.
That's one reason why I do all of our tour down on the line.
Help is on 20 2913813.
Is the score just takedown after another for Chris Bono after Bobby Duggar says he's just thinking, gosh, I had ten like Chris Paul, one hard because Bono wrestles with his heart.
That's why he's ranked high.
That's why he's going to be right in there for an NCAA title.
He wrestles with his heart, no doubt.
He's got a big battle.
No wonder he had a penalty.
Drag out of bounds, nil down and a takedown makes it 23 to 10.
But this is only one match.
Iowa's won the first four optional starts and leads here six to nothing that got started with a pin at 180.
Mike Matta over Jason Norrie and that what No that's that's 111 to 23 three Swiss back back to Wow He's going to try to put the man on his back.
I'm going to play this.
That's a match termination The ball on your ball and that's a big win for Chris Bono.
And he seems to do that all the time for his Iowa State cyclones.
That's a good way to go in the break.
Oh, Bono, the winner impressively at £150 against Mike Gallacher of Osage Junior from University of Iowa.
And that is the score for the Meet Iowa won the first four matches and leads 16 to 4 here in Carver Hawkeye Arena before a crowd of 11,679.
That's the end of the 155 match.
And Tim and I'll be back in just a moment with some big things.
We think the final results from the dream team voting.
And then we'll draw up the map for two free NCAA tickets.
So stay tuned to your statewide home for sports.

And we want to thank you very much for all the balance at the SAT in.
Here come the Iowa State wrestlers on to the map.
That's Brad Horton.
We want to tell you later about our high school wrestling championship will broadcast next week and also tell you about some of the stats in the first half, takedowns and things like that.
Here is the number one for us.
The number one ranked wrestler for Iowa in number one, ranked in the country, £158.
Iowa's Joe Williams against Brad Horton, who was a freshman last year.
At this time, he was taking his redshirt year.
Two years ago, he was in high school at Norwalk, Iowa.
A couple of good wrestlers on his team from Norwalk.
Another one is a young man by the name of Keller.
Eric Keller and Bobby Douglas thinks that this young man, Horton, will impact wrestler eventually and a very hard worker.
But Joe Williams, Bobby Douglas of Iowa State, quoting him, also says Joe Williams has, the whole enchilada.
Well, he's he's quick.
They don't call him lightning for nothing.
And he's got speed up guy.
We've talked about his length and his strength before and he's just got the whole arsenal.
He's he's got it all.
Four time state champion from Mount Carmel, Illinois High School.
And he's really he's something else and ranked number one right now because he's beaten t more Kerry star guys the only person that beat him earlier this year from Nebraska four guys more Acker found that more check in a big take this there's a takedown for Joe Williams full tilt another wrestler.
Great one takedown for Joe Williams and the Hawkeye goes up by two over young Brad Harten.
All right.
You got it.
Barnhart Got to be £167.
He also has wrestled a good deal at this weight this year.
He's the junior from Dubuque.
Wallach taught and that worked out perfect out, hands free, hands free, neutral.
The fact that Joe Williams isn't wrestling Bart Horton today like he did in the match up might be work to his advantage.
Because one of the things Joe likes is a fresh challenge.
He pinned Bart Horton in the meet the last time they met, and now he is somebody who's not wrestled before, and maybe that'll be the inspiration he needs to to make the moves.
Brad Horton, on the other hand, an opportunity to wrestle against the best right here from the big crowd and show his stuff hands down to nothing at all.
Williams is so quick, so strong.
41 Well, he's got a lot of scoring opportunity.
He makes a lot of scoring opportunity.
Sometimes we talk about people needing to open up a little more needed to create more opportunities.
When Williams moves, he can do it all.
He's got leg squares and double crotches.
He can snap you down, he can bear hug right there.
You saw he had a great double leg neutral here it is up for grabs.
Position.
Get position, get position, get position.
You hear Bobby Douglas saying, get position, get position.
Right here, though, out of bounds, you're blocking off ice.
You hear from the referee.
Keith Goodman is saying that Brad Horton, you're blocking off here.
You're not allowing Williams to make the moves that he wants to move and you're not trying to create action yourself right there.
The opening came by Joe Williams and another takedown.
And again, in the last 10 seconds of a period where guys, 6 to 2 at the end of the first appears that one of the takedowns by Joe Williams in on the single leg right here now he just cuts off drives back in for the double so he had a single he reversed direction came back covered the hips and got the two points I can start that one.
Joe Williams says I like it.
I like it on my feet.
Some go 6 to 3 in favor of Joe Williams.
The only loss this year was the Team Autry of Nebraska in a match that Dan Gable just referred to as one.
He didn't wrestle.
He didn't move, he said.
And he is so explosive, amazingly strong.
And and you're ready to water is good.
And you can't do that with him right now.
If you're a coach, you have this kind of fun green, this kind of talent.
You want to see.
It used for the entire every second of those 7 minutes penalty against Brad Horton.
And that's worth a point after having his having been warned earlier so at 7 to 3 but then as we said, Joe Williams beat him 8 to 4 next time around.
That's called gathering and gathering them in.
I mean, he just gathered Brad Horton and got in, pass the hands into the hips and then he used his strength and his length and he succeeded.
He took everything back and took him right down to his back.
And Horton had to scramble to safety out of the near fall situation.
It seems so easy for Joe Williams, but the fact of the matter is it is pretty easy for him.
It when he moves, he scores 9 to 4 in favor of Joe Williams.
And as expected, Iowa has won four of the first five weight.
They won the first four.
Then Chris put on a takedown show at 150 against my future to get Iowa State on the board.
But the hawks came to wrestle but up good shot.
No know your shot underneath the red well to the left.
Brad Horton has to just find some kind of action right here that he can create and not let Joe Williams dictate the match.
Now, that's a lot easier said than done, but he's got to do it.
He's got to stop the momentum that's happening right here and improve it.
He's got to keep Joe Williams from scoring.
It will anyway.
You know that right there.
There's the end of the second period.
I was short.
That's Tom Ortiz on his feet.
Here's the assistant coach who works the most with Brad Hart and post on the elbow drives into the hips, gathers him in kind of puts him on his lap and drives him right to the back, one green trying to hold him.
That's true.
Red Horton wasn't one to let him do that.
So Williams starting underneath reverses and comes up near job 9 to 4 lets the man go on It's 11 to 5 Back up right now.
Go underneath.
There you go.
Set it up at the £167 match.
Coming up next, you'll see Barnhart and of Iowa State Darrell Weber of against Barry Welden of Iowa State.
Good to go.
Well, I take that back.
I'm looking at my notes from yesterday it will be bars Horton and then very well done will go up to 77 against where he had success the last time out.
He's had a lot of successes he's moved up to 77 earlier in the early in the year versus other in other domains but here it's Joe Williams up 12 to 5 both guys action, you know, and Horton has to stay active.
You've got to get right I mean he's he's actually run it I mean yeah how can you blame the guy I mean Joe Williams in there looking for the inside position, looking for there.
You know, he's a thrower.
He can you on his back and he can pin you just like that shoot there's front headlock coming around You take out Brad Horton basically gives that up just so he won't give more than two points up and it's 14 to 5 now.
Great.
Get what with about 30 seconds to go in the match set man.
Set three, go 14 to 5.
It is a major decision territory.
There's no doubt about that.
Yes.
Joe Williams going to let him go, try for takedown.
You're got to take down Brett, maybe one to the back, something like that.
Shot the leg.
What's the trade off?
You know, Williams, I mean, if he's motivated, if he's fired up, there's it's kind of like Mike minute.
I don't know if there's anybody out there Doug that can can beat him It's just a matter of coaches the coaching staff keeping him fired up and motivated ready to go live.
I do.
And there's the takedown next at 16 to 6 oh with 2 seconds to go he just boy you you keep Joe Williams wrestling and there's no stopping him and diving and so I suspect he'll just stay in there during this time and does for the last 2 seconds writing time 17 to 6 a major decision on Ohio 19 Bobby Douglas is talking about finding their locker room on that 4.21 wrestling match for the number one ranked Hawkeyes.
You're looking now at five for 101 for the 50 year junior from the Berlin Wall.
Great champion in high school.
Also finished runner up last year.
He had a challenger.
This year, he's more than that attempt to head on his bicycle.
But he's five time Daryl Webber appeals for Man for All Seasons, Men for All Way, an all-American at 142 and 158.
He's up at 167 this year, standing in the Gap for the Hawkeyes.
He's been that kind of wrestler out of Don Bosco, and he's just really a man with a great work ethic.
And and I'm was very proud of his time control.
First period, won 67 Iowa State and Iowa in certain circles.
We ran a half shot by Horton's track that I can break you guys up.
It's evident even here's a young man two years ago, 142 and now 158 and 167.
He's built his body up.
He knew he was going to be at 167.
Daryl Weber Daddy's lifted hard and he is bigger than Bart Horton out here.
He is 58 pounder, as we know, moving up a weight C Darrell Weber So that can move Wheldon up to 177 and come up, come up.
Webber looks every bit of the 167 pounder.
He's as good as anybody really.
I mean he just has to work harder to beat him.
The people like Marcus Mollica who went on one point match with him against Arizona State, a two time NCAA champion, Mollica driving Horton and on the leg over step in the hole with a minute and a half to go.
First person to step out of the position is.
Lincoln mcCorvey actually sitting right beside me, two time NCAA champion taking a year off to train for the Olympics and a Dream team member is part of the double leg.
We'll have to see if Weber can fight this.
He does what the Whizzer Perry does with a whizzer and it was a tough whizzer there.
He kept his sense about him.
The bounce guy Horton was in tight right there, but there's Bobby Douglas saying, how can I get how can he get in that tight and not get it three oh right.
Darrell Weber this time Ortiz And now Webber is in for the first time and not really fought off again by Horton who's been tussling with him here on this first period.
A minute left to go get through the tie up.
No score.
It's time to come in here.
Bobby Douglas shouting at him to control the tie up, control the tied up with the right legs.
Little technical point.
Sorry.
Something that Bobby Douglas knows lead to changes in your wrestling skill you cut through to throw the tire back them up.
That's Daryl Webber, Bart host right here, trying to get their inside position right there, trying to work something that he can create, can control the tie.
Barry Douglas wants his wrestlers to wrestle his there.
He's in on that.
He needs to get his hips underneath him.
But there's good hip pressure, a strong defense by Daryl Webber.
There's a place that Webber's improved a lot this year is in offense.
Wasn't all that great.
He's good at offense, but he has improved on his defense.
He's a much improved wrestler, and that's what's happened every year.
He's been well.
He's only lost his lost four times this year, twice to Mollica the second time.
By one point he lost to the number three ranked man early in the year.
Burton of Boise State and to Mark Branch.
And I'd say the one to Branch was the only one where he really wasn't in the match.
It's a branch of national champion.
Two years ago, there's two national championships.
They had to wait between Mollica and Branch, but he's having a stiff time here with Mark Horton wrestled an extra first period against him.
We hope you're enjoying Iowa public television coverage of today's Perry guys.
Join us next Saturday for that big high school wrestling championships.
We'll bring you all the action, starting with the Grand March 630 to all the individual awards, the trophy presentation of the team championships, and it all begins on Saturday at 630 live from Veterans Auditorium in the mall.
I hope you plan to watch.
I'm doing my Tuesdays on my show in Irvine just to be ready for this to happen.
What a catch.
There is the first point of the match.
Daryl Weber, who had the dominant position from the second period, got out and leads Portland one to nothing.
Control the top and here comes Weber High crotch move and he cut off to the double real nicely.
Now there's trying to hold on to kind of a crutch position right there but he doesn't is able to avoid the two point takedown goodbye makes it three nothing is going to break him up.
Weber went through a scoreless first period and has picked up three in the first 40 seconds of the second.
Come up both guys and pretty much both guys up.
Get your head free.
Talk about the high school championships.
NCAA days are going to be up to Minneapolis this year.
They're doing something new on Wednesday night before they all start.
They're having a national booster club social.
All the booster clubs come downtown and and enjoy it.
So I know the hockey and cycling fans will enjoy that.
And they're doing some neat things up in Minneapolis, University of Minnesota.
It's going be a fun NCAA.
And so if you want to know more about that Booster Club Social, you probably ask the people in on the leg after party escapes, Well, blow it off.
You just pull looked up for Carla to do the right thing there.
Keith Pullman did the right thing by saying color top way would off say a wrong color tie.
He was saying something to do that inside and they have to get it right there.
Now there's Weber coming in an across single and then he was able to catch it go across to the other other leg, make a double leg and get two points with about 12 seconds left period and good second period.
All the scoring here in the second period by Daryl Weber, I shoes down 3 seconds from and set Weber comes over look great it was a start with a pinning All right right off the last part surprise when you heard the end of the pace get one here's Daryl Weber getting his picture and second period so in starts down third gets one trailing 5 to 1 No no not quite the lightning time advantage for Weber.
He's working out.
He has 50 seconds and running time.
He looks for this half Nelson the spiral.
He tries to.
He's a good rider.
He starts on the right side and Weber does.
He jumps over to the left and drives a half.
But now he says, I like, like, oh, my feet freezing like this.
He's had success here from the second very on the attack.
He's hard to shoot on.
He scores a lot when an opponent shoots on him, too, and that's what he's kind of waiting for Bart Horton to do.
Flat shoots it on this single.
This is a good shot.
He needs to come up short, needs to come up with this right now, not stay down with his head there.
He's doing the right thing.
He's doing the right thing here.
He could just finish this off and he does good execution by Bart Horton.
So it's 5 to 4 on the first take.
Good shot, good execution.
He finished that when he had to take down tries in the first period, but he couldn't finish up.
And now it's a 5 to 4 match and no riding time.
Yes.
In fact, if Horton can stay on a few seconds, he'll pull it away from the Minnesota 59 seconds of right time for Weber Hallmark card double.
Here we go.
I had him a little bit here.
Break it down steady got on the with it Weber into the sit out position.
Well and he gets his he gets his arms underneath really well and Horton ends up on top but he's good he's writing them a few seconds and that's really all he wanted to do, but he didn't want to it technically, strategically, not thinking right there.
You give the one not to.
He had success on his feet.
Horton did.
He wanted to get back to his feet.
And now what?
I'm going to write a documentary, get some writing time points.
I'm going to take it down.
Has the advantage.
He now has a minute to write in time.
It's like a turnover in any other sport, football or basketball job.
Weber just gotten now 7 to 5 after this and comes Weber again, this both up right guard Mark Harris had a reversal.
He caught the head.
He almost turned it into big time trouble for Barton.
He did, but Horton was able to roll through and only give up the two.
I mean, warning was given in the second period to Weber, so it is on top right there.
Bart Horton trying to get a nice tight collar tie and then in on the double leg he got and he got it and changed up to a single that was a nice executed move again Bobby Douglas coaching well from the corner and I can tell that Bart Horton is listening to it very closely because he did exactly what Coach Guy got to do.
So it's a tie seven, seven and right in time is not quite that is running up and on right in time for you guys and on writing time theory here that's enough for Weber to win and Bobby Douglas is furious when you signal takedown he switched over you got to go turn your there was at least 3 seconds on it.
I mean how much time was on their on the writing time clock at what time when he got to takedown about a minutes six away with a minute 7 seconds when when a period slows run in the writing time clock was a set correctly when I get the points exactly it I think it's you're saying it's correct you change it as soon as I gave the points.
Okay.
That's the question is how much did the running time point guys the clock correctly?
That's it.
Did the writing time clock starts ticking off in Horton's favor when the takedown was made?
As soon as both calling recognize that it was the takedown and the officials at the bench say, yes, I ran out at the right time.
Why was it that that's a good match?
Mark Gordon Just a little too little too late there at the last minute.
Nice job in a couple of takedown.
And so it's one of the four.
Halle Berry is very well known.
I think this is going to be a very interesting match because I only for these two wrestling names in the first duel, very well done as he does here.
He's 167 pounder, went up to run 77 against Kurt Heitman, and he controlled him.
Really unusual.
We were surprised at how easily he beat Heidemann.
I'd be surprised the tie up, and I think Heidi is driving school very well.
I was going to say I'd be surprised if he is a much different wrestler, one we saw a month ago against Weld, and this will be a good match tonight.
Senior from New Hampton.
Very well done.
The junior from Cherry Park High School in Englewood, Colorado, a three time state champion out there, both really sturdy types.
I'll tell you, a lot of power score in that first match was 5 to 1.
Waldon was able to control the tie.
He was able to slide by.
He actually able to get to get an angle, get an opening.
And so this time he needs to move laterally more needs to create more opportunities to score and get after Weld him himself.
They'll fight or they'll feel each other out again.
They have a lot of respect for each other.
They'll hand fight, right?
Those are the extra points right there.
Bono winning a major.
And I will get an opinion from Matt in Ironside, winning with a major decision.
And those are the extra points so far with the score 23 to 4 favor Iowa.
And we also had a major decision from Joe Williams there is high demand on the leg.
The first takedown he's having to meet and he found that opening with well created it very little throwing up the hands there and drop down to the single nice scoring move by Whiteman.
So obviously he's been going to school and what he did wrong in that first meet Kurt Heineman the Iowa wrestler team leads 22 for one, gets the first takedown leads very well done.
2 to 1 almonds right there.
You know, both these wrestlers are, of course, we're talking about Weldon's futures at 167 in the conference, the Nationals in Hyde a minute, 177.
He's you know, besides gotchas this this a 177 is pretty wide open.
And he's right there.
And he could become a high placing all-American for the Hawkeyes.
It all depends on where his head is.
If he's ready healthy and ready to get after it.
Of course, with catches in there as well.
Besides King Kong, there are a lot of not so good apes.
And that's what they thought about Koy at Heavyweight and Lincoln McClure Maybe at 150.
That's right.
So it's the old anybody can get beat on a given time in a given night, 20 seconds to go.
In the first period here, Heineman leads by two.
He did something about a minute ago that he didn't do in the first meet at all, and then he didn't do all that much last year at all.
He really needed to come in in the season.
He needed to open up and keep improving.
And now you can see his growing confidence out there.
He feels he's able to get the tie up.
He wants to control what Weldon does.
The way well and control him the first time.
Both these coaches, Coach Douglas, Coach Gable, the best they know how to turn a turn a match around after a loss and the wrestlers will think and will will listen.
They can make huge improvements from one match to the next action well out it's now two two.
Well, it's a hard wrestler.
Where he wrestles best is where he comes after he bangs and he hits you on top of the head and he looks for slide bys and and sometimes they're right there.
He's able to control the head a little bit.
But he's got to dictate the match here for him to to get in control and win.
Now, neither of these wrestlers are are good enough wrestlers that they can allow the other man to dictate the match and still get by with a close win.
Here are.
There they have to dictate the match 15 to go second to two.
Of course, in the third period, Heidemann will get his chance to start on the bottom action and get that point for escape item and again reach a single flag.
See, what he did was high.
I mean, Wheldon knocked him in down a little bit, but he knew what he wants he was focused.
Youssef He's on a mission.
He says, I'm going to get those legs and I'm going to finish it.
There's full heart and legs at 190 and now pull it down.
Heidemann was like a someone that knew exactly what he was going to hit a heat seeking missile right there.
He got he got back down to the mat, but he knew it was after the leg and he kept going forward to the leg.
Coming to the leg.
Coming to the mat is also given well, and some different looks in that tie up situation.
Wheldon has not been able to control them as he does the first time.
Now, there is the first time that Wheldon almost reached the leg, but he didn't.
And it's still two two with 18 seconds to go in the second period here right now.
Time Pick it up, guys.
Keep it up.
Pick it up.
Stolen advantage so far is high because he has the takedown and has the opportunity to escape to start the third period.
He could be a point up to two.
Oh yeah.
That third period he had a minimal start in the down position.
So there is our lucky winner of that.
Sorry if we didn't have his name right on here.
I think it's probably 0eh You know how it is, my friend.
If you are the winner, you're seeing this.
Go on to the NCAA line as usual.
And that's what we talked about.
Kurt.
Vitamin is out right away, so he is leading 3 to 2.
And now as we go on the feet, these two have their work on the feet, cut out of them, cut out for them.
But Wheldon is down a point, as I say, after my girls, they have to like, get through it, only take down is belong to high bridge it now that's what the world needs to do.
Well, it needs to control that tight collar tie, get the two on one slide by, drop down to the beat, down to the like something.
But he's got to get past the arms and high Timmins awful tough to get past the arms And then once his opponents down on the mat Heyman's very good at snapping and going around Raider two in favor of high Ottoman by the way in this last minute here, we want to thank people who have been helping us this year at the University of Iowa.
Athletic Director Bob Bozeman, Assistant Athletic Director Larry Bruner director of sports promotion and marketing, Rick Klatt, sports Information Director.
Phil Hadden, Facilities Manager.
Dale Durkee, Assistant Facilities Manager.
Kelly Gray and wrestling coach Dan Gable.
On this stack.
We're down to 40, 40 seconds left and the Bulls are getting after each other right here.
Kind of who can be most Ram right here is what it's come down to to hard wrestlers title wins got the advantage item and has definitely control the situation get called the stone right here he's off with the elbow a couple of times he's getting right there is no question about it except it gets his mind right here.
Well, but if he can get by with it, he's not getting his pet move here by any means.
Well, they're making all the moves right now.
I mean, just blocking off.
It's a good thing he's holding on our witness.
A warning.
There's the warning against height, but it's too late all the time and height of control.
The match has.
Well, did the first one.
And so no right in time.
It's 3 to 2.
A close win for Kurt environment, but a revenge win at £177 over Iowa State.
Very well.
Iowa 26.
Iowa State four after 177.
Well at Banach, he's the captain of our dream team.
You know.
Good.
Got to say thanks, doc.
Thanks for half.
Congratulations on the most fun, I think.
I bet you're the most popular wrestler.
That's right.
Know.
I appreciate his fans here in Iowa are great.
I really enjoyed wrestling at Manik.
Stick around and must hear of one of your wages.
190.
Carry us through this hundred £90 class with the wrestlers who are up there gleeful heart of Iowa and Matthew Paddock's, Matt Paddock's of State.
You've seen both these men this year.
I think you've I know you've seen pallets.
Yeah, I believe I've seen paddocks I'm not sure about for heart if he wrestled in the Iowa State duel over in Ames, I believe I've seen him.
Yes, Florida young redshirt freshman.
Really someone that Dan's thinking it's really going to come on and make a big impact for him, but he lost his ACL.
He does not even have an ACL from part of his knee.
And that's why you see the big brace and he's not having an operation right now.
And so just to be able to be out there somewhere and he broke pallets down after pallets had reached him and full heart is up two to nothing.
I know what an ACL is.
I myself, when I was wrestling my senior year, tore my anterior cruciate ligament.
That's what it stands for.
And I'm interested to see how well he performs today.
Well, he's been performing all year with that.
Just chose not to get the operation.
I want to get in there right now and it has to be pretty difficult, doesn't it?
Yes.
You have to go through at least I did when I was training and competing.
I had to go through a bunch of muscle control exercises the way that the calf muscle and the hamstring muscle are used to strengthen the joint, the knee joint, so that you don't need the ACL, the injury.
And that's keeps it stable.
Right?
Right.
What you got over it?
Well, I was very fortunate.
Dan Foster, the trainer at the time that worked with me here, did an excellent job as he did as he does with all the wrestlers.
And he helped me through that period of time.
Break it back down pat.
It has a record of eight and he's lost 18 matches this year in his sophomore year.
But he I mean, here's Pat.
It's got his head down right here in full.
Heart's able to stuff it and go around for the two points right there near job but he hasn't been on his back.
Nobody's pinned him in those 18 losses.
He's been able to stay in there.
You can count on him to give you full match.
One thing about Iowa schedule, they're going to wrestle everybody in the country.
That's good.
So Patterson or a full hearts will also see everybody there that he has to compete against Patterson.
He's a freshman and they're just young right now.
It's going to take a while for Iowa State's upper weights to come along and be more consistent, win more matches.
What we've talked about all year long, how the Iowa State wrestlers seem to be, you know, falling in line with Bobby Douglas's system.
And it seems to be coming on.
Do you see the same thing?
Yes, I do.
I think Bobby has in the upper weights with a young team, the lighter weights are the strength of the team at Iowa State.
But in this do mean Iowa also very, very strong in the lower weights and and the score.
Well, you have connections both ways don't you wrestle for Iowa?
Everything's popular here.
There's a full heart for what you need to do right here.
Well, he's got a little he's got to get up.
He's got to change elevation.
He's starting to get up his hedge down a little bit.
When the head goes down, the body, you elevate like that.
He's doing a good job.
They're getting his elevation now.
Fortunate.
Or Patterson's in that position for heart.
If he can get the leg off his head could turn in like he's doing and then turn and he might be able to get some back points here.
What did I say?
Oh, he just some his weight just so he can secure a fall, some lose weight, doing a good job time of the period when it's made by the bell elbowed spotter sitting there, huh?
That was a good awareness of the first good scramble, good awareness shown by folks up.
I was down late for heart.
We saw him.
He's doing a good job here.
He's got his head on that set now.
He can change the hand control in the leg.
Got to be careful once the his leg is free, he can turn back into the man, turn it and got the head.
Both these guys were beaten £190 as they scramble.
Well, yeah, we talk about that too.
It seems like down below at 100 1826, you got a hand fighting.
You're scrambling all of a sudden battling at 177 and 39.
You're battling for position, you're not hand fighting.
And it's a slower action.
It is slower.
There's more force involved in the upper weight.
So there's more weight as well.
So it tends to slow things down.
Action.
However, these two look like they're pretty good athletes in the the there's not as much push and pull as more scrambling, more attack, counter attack, attack, counter attack going on in this match just like it was.
Doug when they get wrestle back is nobody left hundred and £90.
The match between Iowa's lethal Hart and Iowa state's map had it's now you have connections both ways as I said you're up here at Iowa state strong staff and you're you're the man ready to ask how tough is it for these people to to keep academically sound when the rest of your tough sport?
Yes, I'm a student athlete, counselor at Iowa State.
I work with Dan McCartney on his football staff.
I really enjoy working with Dan McCartney, a former Iowa football coach.
He's great.
He really believes in young people's character as being a fundamental thing that's going to reach success so far through the good job here.
And maybe only if you get that arm gets the back points.
You got the 2.8 guy keeps the knee, he can lift it up, elevate it and drive toward the shoulders.
Patty Pettis did a good job from it.
Yeah, I'm a student athlete, counselor.
What that means I'm the person that looks after how the NCAA Big eight, soon to be Big 12 conference and university rules impact student athletes eligibility and they also provide support services to the football players that I work with.
I work with Troy.
Oh, here a face Full Heart did a really nice job.
He had a nice turkey in and then he had a nice cross face to turn him over to his back.
He can set off for good.
Saved by the bell.
Yeah.
Again, that path paid off his back pretty well this year.
Ended up on his back there and it's 14 to 2.
A good big match takes up.
It's interesting to see how these upper weight wrestlers do in the third period.
You can tell who's in shape and who's not.
It's a theoretically more difficult to get an upper an upper weight class wrestler in shape because of the extra body mass.
What do you do here to adjust?
I mean, he he opens himself up and all of a sudden pass around the back of his hips.
It was it was the control of padded trips for heart.
Did a good job of having the turkey in and adjusted his hips to turn pad.
It's just like turning a key all of a sudden Paris was over.
Well, it's got its force, you know, it's force and leverage.
So on the effort he's in far, it's doing a good job.
He's really impressed me with his technique on his feet and as well as on top.
He has a had a good bar half in there for a little bit ago to a good job here.
Totally correct.
And again, going for a near fall here in a tough position.
14 to 2 is a score with a minute and a half to go.
And Iowa leads Iowa State with a £180 000.
He's Iowa State strong again one more green 26 to 4 pass was hit by a stop.
You were talking earlier, Doug, about these wrestlers and athletes in general about how difficult it is that to do both their sport and academically function well, do well.
They'll make new start.
If you look at especially wrestling right now, the busy part of the year, I'm sure Dan has these guys going in the morning and they have to go to class in the approximate afternoon and some of them even come back at night, work out that it is extremely difficult.
It takes a different type of person.
Oh, yes.
Any free time you have, you have to really schedule your time in such a fashion that you're using it wisely and efficiently.
I have a lot of respect for athletes, and particularly having once been a wrestler for the time and energy they devote now to the sport.
But that they have to devote to the academics to stay eligible, but also to earn the degree.
But when we talk to Bobby Douglas, he talks about academics and how he spends the time it takes to make sure his wrestlers are paying attention and are diligent in their academics as well as in the wrestling.
And we are we provide report for our office school Athlete services at Iowa State provided reports to Bobby Douglas in search of his wrestlers.
And who's doing well, who's not doing well.
And he gets on those that aren't doing well, that aren't doing what's expected of them.
15 to 3.
Here is the score with 14 seconds to go full, half a point lead for full heart.
And he is doing what's expected of him.
Oh, yes.
He's on the mat here.
I'm impressed.
He's showing more technique today.
I walked in here about a month ago and he wasn't as crisp as he is today.
Right.
That's a good point you make, because he was just coming back from that injury and he's just getting the go guys going in the conference tournament said that's a good time to be Chris.
Right, Right.
Well, we had a three and a half minutes of writing time on top of that, and he's up 16 to 3.
And who's going to wrestle heavyweight for Iowa?
That's the question.
It going to be big or is it going to be Mike Christianson, Iowa State has a young man.
We wanted to correct the way we were referring to him all year.
Trap.
You know, of course, I got around a little bit to check That's an old tech name.
But somebody told us early in the year, I Hynek and nobody corrected us.
So, yeah, I think it's Hynek.
His dad.
His dad and his dad came to me last week and said, We sent the old decorations out.
My boys are for Indian PLOWBOY, and he's proud of it.
He did, right?
HYNEK Yeah.
Yeah, it is.
HYNEK It is.
He didn't say that.
Oh, yeah.
I'm not going to fight your idea.
And he's in the camp, and this is Diego out here in San Diego, who weighs about 210, sometimes goes in £180.
When he got some weight, I heard it there.
This is the person that was in the last poll I heard that they were teammates or the wrestler, some high school that the same one or not that Diego's from Diego Eagles from New York.
Oh, this was taking in the last time, which didn't happen to me.
Yes.
The two wrestled.
They named before him because they were haymakers ago or and Bobby Douglas, who doesn't like to start freshman right out of high school.
A lot of guys has been proud of the way he neck has gone at it.
He'll give you a he'll give you a 7 minutes.
Well, he had a big win against Stoner from Iowa at the Hilton.
It really caused a sense of optimism for the cyclones that sent them from a defeat.
Actually, it was a moral victory.
It's a great way to end when you can a heavyweight that ends it in victory.
I like the trend that I've been seeing, too, with the heavyweights across the nation.
They're really starting to be more agile.
They're really starting to do more.
Carly Thompson, for instance, from Nebraska, is a technician and heavyweight in When I Wrestled, you see some of these guys that were really big and obese up there wrestling, and they really couldn't do as many techniques with these younger heavyweights.
They were so big you couldn't do anything against them, right?
There's no high school boys Eagle and he'll pick, you know, he's in the underhook there, Diego.
Beautiful shot there.
That was all that was all set up with that.
We pulled his head, got the step, and then he was able to pick the ankle.
Good job holding the head there.
Right it right there.
Hand fine and fighting.
Well, hey, it's interesting to see how fast these big guys are moving at.
Back with us.
He was the captain of our 20 year dream team in college.
Wrestling's voting announced today that 90 Palin division in 20 years got the most votes of anybody.
So he's the captain.
Those wrestlers were all from the university of Iowa, with the exception of Dave Schultz, 167, who, by the way, was way ahead before the terrible thing that happened in Pennsylvania.
So it wasn't any sympathy vote afterwards.
He was a great race, guys improved And Dave Schultz, extraordinary thing.
Oh, look at this.
He would be sorely missed.
One eagle is making it look like it's no accident that he got that first takedown against a larger trend.
He didn't have Iowa State.
Oh, well, he goes beaten, some good wrestling beaten.
Justin Hardy from North Carolina is a highly ranked heavyweight.
And he's like you said at one time, he was planning to wrestle heavyweight, but then he decided to go in 109.
Here he comes again.
He's just getting his weight back up.
This has got to make Dan Gable happy.
I think he was preparing him maybe to be the heavyweight in the thick of guys in the tournament, some six four to win that one because those are the dream team members all from the University of Iowa.
The chance that Brandes brothers Troy Steiner, Lincoln, Mack Arabia and the upper weights, Jim Zaleski, assistant coach Dave Schultz of Oklahoma, Roy Salter, Ed and Lou Banach and the upper weights.
And that Banach is with us here in Carver Hawkeye Arena, watching Iowa's heavyweights John Diggle do a really good job on Trent Henning of Iowa State.
Three takedowns in the first period and a 6 to 2 lead.
Yeah, because the Eagles are doing a good job of keeping good position, even though he's a little bit smaller than he did.
He's doing a really fine job keeping his elbows in when they're tying up and keep it in good position.
Early in the year, the word was of Diggle that if you could, if he were working on the shape through the year so he could wrestle more than a ten or 15 second verse, he could be a national champion and he's looked good here so far.
Don't let up.
You push him enough, you push him 6 to 2.
But hey, Nick, he's had a terrific freshman year, 86.
We're in the middle of the second year.
It's going to be interesting to see how the third the perfect fares for both these wrestlers, see what type of shape they're in.
He Nick I've watched him several times over at Iowa State in the dummies that I've watched.
And he's a pretty good athlete.
He has so much technique and he seems to stay in the match like.
Yes, he doesn't die on it.
But when I have 30 seconds to go in the second period here, 6 to 2, Iowa has rolled it up in this, Matt.
And this made you're talking about good position as far as Heaney is concerned.
That's what sets up everything is a stable again.
And the reason why people are successful on that shot right there was that he Nick was getting up, his legs were straight and you don't get his leg, got his legs bent and he was able to attack off with 10 seconds to go in the second period of the second half.
Well, we talk a lot and we'll talk a lot about how the Hawkeyes score at the end of the periods at the edge of the mat.
We'll come back to that.
Yeah, right there.
He didn't get an answer.
He does a really good job with the Underhook.
He's getting very nice drop change, steps up the elevation now steps up.
Nope, Drops down and it changes.
Don't change yourself.
Jake is off to the double leg.
Drives him and he's in bad position right now.
You're going to screw up.
And it seems like for years that's what you love.
Trademark of Hawkeye wrestling is Ben get after him.
And if there's something being scored in the last 10 seconds, it's usually a Hawkeye score in it.
If there's something being scored at the end of at the edge of the mat, is that something that's going on up in the room as far as being drilled into him?
Well, I think what more it's more a picture of the pressure that the Iowa wrestler puts on their opponent then really teaches that you keep such a high pace for such a long period of time that toward the end of the period a wrestler may give up economy, give up a little bit again because of the pressure, the pressure scores both physically and mentally.
Right.
Right now, in this case, panic, not been able to keep people off his legs.
Yeah, the score is 8 to 3.
This time.
It looks like he's in a bit of a defensive position right there.
Well, let's just see what happens here.
They're kind of scramble scrambles like this at heavyweight.
When they tangle up like that with the leg difficult, he makes the bad position right there with his head down.
Oh, but he's getting his head still in a bad position with his head down because he has a leg up on his face.
Really tough to tell.
You can show something.
Yeah, I can see that eagle was close to getting him.
You got to turn in a good job of slipping and keeping his hips.
Should be to do.
Even though the eagle did get to and instruct him Scramble, I would say call out.
You got 20 seconds left in the match and John Diego is to have praised his coaches know has done a nice job he don't have the technique today he's impressive very fast one good luck of the two big men they've wrestled well, and there it is.
They both kept pace hot off the pace, fighting, breaking the law, guiding time and looking more like a 433 to 4 rival.
As strong as Iowa State has been getting lately and rivals, one of the big the biggest wins in Iowa battle Iowa State in the last four years.
John Tingle did a great job and a great job, and that's winning.
Coach Dan Gable, 33 to 4.
Iowa over Iowa State.
It all started with a pair of 100 and from one Mike on top, Jason Mary And that was the start and that started right off in a win win.
Well, once again, the final score is, 33 to 4 in favor of the Iowa Hawkeyes in this rematch.

It's always done better.
Yeah, you're from Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.

And that show here for possession professional.
You got it real deep.
That happened.
But it's a win for the Cyclones and it's now seven over of Iowa State after two match winner Martin And what Murray's got to do he's got to get food on race.
It's one of those times you got to go down there.
They're giving it up.
And you really then kind of grabbed his back and kept him from getting takedown fake a blue shirt.
Anyway, everything was locked up.
A pretty good paper from the Michael Moore before we got it right before all the that this might be the referee is going to be taking over.
So now we see the position Yeah body of cross that's going to take it down a great for my son and he was a good one of the 57.
I said hey great job.
