(upbeat music) - PBS Utah's New Book Club in a Box, Tech Together helps families explore digital wellness through the book Digital For Good.
And joining us with more is Annie Frazier, the education manager here at PBS Utah.
Hi Annie, thanks for being here again.
So this is a subject, you know well, this is what you did your thesis on.
So tell us, I know a lot of people are concerned about social media, so tell us how you can use it for good.
- Well, we don't really know a lot about how to raise children in a digital world.
Many of us weren't raised with screens.
We don't know if we like how our parents did it or not.
So we don't know necessarily what's right or what's wrong.
But this book really gives us a lot of tools on how to make screen time effective, how to be good digital citizens, how to be safe and especially how to have open communication.
So this Book Club in a Box is for parents specifically.
You can start requesting it in August on our website, but really we want to support parents as they try to mediate screen time and manage screens and help them be effective.
- Yeah, because so many parents are frankly a little lost about it.
So this is a great thing you're offering them.
You don't have to be a parent though.
- No.
- To participate in the book club, and it's all virtual.
So people just call to get it.
- Yes, they can call and they can get it, and they'll have a box that will have all different questions and activities and resources and the host can gather friends and family to experience and learn together.
And really it's about finding ways to make screen time more family oriented rather than, you know, arguments about screen time or those types of things.
What are the things that really matter beyond just safety and safety is essential, but how else can we be better digital citizens and experience the virtual world in healthy ways?
- That's great.
Well, I'm so glad you're doing it, and thank you for being here.
- Thanks.
