Hey, friends.
Guess what?
Right now, we are live on TV on WGVU.
Yeah, our show is designed for you to play along with us on many of the things we will be doing.
And some of you have registered at our Play-at-Home Interface, ha.
So you will notice that there will be viewer ideas brought in during part of the show in real time.
Yeah, when they registered, they were given an animal and a color to represent them.
So all of us are gonna play together, and some of your ideas will be shown right here in the show!
Ha, ha.
Our show is better because of our collaboration.
And speaking of working together, Jim, as always, is here.
And I'm gonna ask Jim.
Jim, have you ever made a pillow fort?
- You know, I have.
But when you brought that up now, I'm thinking it's been a while.
So actually, I've got a blanket back here and you see I'm starting one.
- Yeah.
- I gotta get going on it, but yeah, it's been a while.
They're fun, right?
Because you basically just take blankets, and sheets, and pillows, and you kind of stack 'em all together, and you make little tunnels and it make a little fort, and use - It's the best.
- the table and furniture.
Yeah.
- Yeah.
- So I'm definitely gonna make one today.
- Okay, good.
You can't go wrong.
"Yes!
In my living room."
Awesome.
Right?
It's just depending on what you have, what pillows, what furniture, what blankets.
There's no right or wrong.
Yeah.
Oh, man!
Love it, Green Tiger.
Man, so fun.
I wonder, does any, what advice, hmm.
Do you have any advice, Jim, as we're getting all these ideas?
- [Jim] No, well, you know, if you run out of things that hold everything in place, it's good you can like, actually tuck the sheets and blankets into like, couch and chair cushions that can kinda hold it in place.
- Yeah, that's true.
You gotta give some, like, anchor points or some stability.
- Right.
- Yeah.
Oh, a blanket fort, yeah.
Yeah, I guess you don't technically need pillows, right?
- No.
- No.
Man, well, if you haven't made a pillow, blanket, fort, chair, whatever you want to include, we encourage you to go for it!
Ha, ha.
Well, let's get rolling with our song.
We always love to open up with a song.
So share with us a descriptive word, a word that describes something.
It's also called an adjective.
So, for example, the word silly.
(laughs) I often think of myself as pretty silly.
So here we go.
Watch this.
♪ I have a silly pillow ♪ I have a silly pillow ♪ I have a silly pillow ♪ It helps me sleep at night Yeah.
That's it.
Jim, do you have a descriptive word?
Oh, I see some coming in though.
"Polka dot."
Should we go with that?
- [Jim] Polka dot.
Yeah, go with polka dots.
Sounds good.
- Let's (indistinct) it.
♪ I have a polka-dot pillow ♪ I have a polka-dot pillow ♪ I have a polka-dot pillow ♪ It helps me go to sleep Yeah, polka-dots.
"Leafy."

(laughs) ♪ I have a crunchy pillow ♪ It helps me go to sleep That's what's so fun playing with words.
Right?
When you combine words, in this case, a descriptive word, with the pillow, which is the noun, watch this.
♪ I have an out of, out of focus ♪ That's tricky to say.
I was trying to say, out of focus pillow.
Focus, focus.
♪ I have an out of focus pillow ♪ ♪ It helps me go to sleep Oh, now I woke up and everything is clear vision ahead.
(laughs) Gotta sometimes rub your eyes, and be like, ah, there we go.
Good morning, day!
(laughs) Hey, friends, let's go see what Moby's gonna share with us today.
(upbeat music) - I was just reading that pillows have been around for thousands of years, wow.
The first pillows were hard and made of stone or wood.
That doesn't sound very comfortable at all.
Yeah.
Some animals use each other as pillows.
That sounds better.
Fortunately, someone had the idea to make pillows softer by using things like cotton, foam, or feathers.
That sounds best of all.
Well, I'm not sure how I feel about the feathers though.
(upbeat music) - Well, let's see, friends, we've been singing, we've been spending some time together.
And it's time for today's one, two, Three Sentence Story, beginning, middle, end.
That's right, friends, we're gonna write a story in three sentences.
In the first sentence, we set the scene.
In the second sentence, there is a problem!
No, way!
Ha.
But don't worry, friends, because in the third sentence, there is a solution.
Okay, nouns work best for this.
A person, place, or thing.
I never know where the story will take us.
Oh, ho, we find out from Purple Gorilla playing at home, "river."
The word we're gonna use is river.
Okay.
Let me think over.
Okay.
I hopped in a boat this morning and I set off down the river.
(upbeat music) Oh, story takes place in the river.
Oh, no.
There's gonna be a problem.
(sighs) I wonder what it's gonna be.
Ooh.
Dolphin.
All right.
Wimage Board's looking good.
We've got our river.
Ooh.
Ooh.
I think I already know the problem because dolphins live in oceans.
And this dolphin, what do you think, Jim?
This dolphin is in a river.
- I like it.
I like the way you're thinking, Wimee.
- Right?
And we're going, I think then we're gonna have to solve how to help get the dolphin back to the ocean.
Just I'm thinking ahead.
Okay, okay.
So river.
Okay.
I was, what did I say for the...
I hopped in my boat and was rolling down the river.
A dolphin swam up and said, "Wimee, will you help me get back to the ocean?"
(gasps) How do we help the dolphin get back to the ocean?
No, we need to be quick!
Oh, ninja.
Ha, ha, ha-ha.
The solution, Jim, is a ninja.
Hmm.
Should we incorporate anything with pillow?
Maybe the, I mean, I should have a pillow on the boat at least, right?
- Sure.
- Yeah.
Because I've been out on a long- - [Jim] And they can get, sitting on a boat that long, it can get uncomfortable.
- Yeah, I might want- - Pillow is a good call.
- Yeah, whether I use the pillow for when I sleep or just in general, I could use it for both.
Yeah.
There's my pillow.
Nice.
Okay.
The ninja, that ninja's flying through the air right now.
We got, okay, so the ninja's gonna help.
Hmm, are ninjas known for their skills to help dolphins to, you gotta be... - [Jim] I think you have to get creative here now, Wimee.
- Yeah, maybe the ninja, maybe the ninja calls other ninjas.
And all the ninjas work, I gotta put that in.
Oh, look at that.
Whoa!
Yeah, okay, so it's like a, maybe they, one ninja calls another ninja to call another ninja to help us.
Or did the ninjas pull?
Maybe the ninjas help pull the dolphin or guy.
Well, I guess the dolphin didn't have trouble swimming.
The dolphin's just lost.
Right?
(upbeat music) So the dolphin, okay, I'll go with it.
Here we go.
This morning, I hopped in my boat and started going down the river.
A dolphin swam up and said, "Wimee, I'm lost.
Help me find my way home to the ocean."
I quickly called my ninja emergency number, and four ninjas guided us to the ocean.
Thanks, ninjas.
(children cheering) Yay!
What do you think, friends?
How'd we do?
It's a rough draft, right?
We always start somewhere.
I'm wondering if maybe, what else could we add to the picture, Jim?
Some details like along the river, maybe some trees?
- Sure.
Trees are good.
- Yeah.
- [Jim] Maybe the ocean in the background there.
- Oh, that would foreshadow where we're headed to.
- Right.
- Yeah.
But we may, I think right now, I think I'm going the wrong way!
(laughs) - [Jim] You need to turn your boat around.
(laughs) - I think that's part of the problem maybe.
Yeah, we definitely need these ninjas to say, "You must turn around.
You're going the wrong way," ha, ha.

Friends, it's time for Language Explorers.
(lively music) (presenter yawns) Today's word is pillow.
I need a pillow.
I'm so tired, so tired.
- In Spanish, pillow is almohada.
Almohada.
- In Swahili, pillow is mto.

- Pillow in Ukrainian is (speaking in foreign language).
- Pillow in Arabic is (speaking in foreign language).
- [Narrator] In American sign language, pillow is signed like this.
(interpreter vocalizes) Pillow.
- In Haitian Creole, pillow is zorye.

(lively music continues) (Wimee speaking in foreign language) - That was my friend Rashida who said how to say pillow in Arabic.
Did I get that right, Jim?
(speaking in foreign language) I think so.
- I'm gonna trust that you did.
You were close enough.
- Yeah.
And what's cool though is I can go back and double-check later.
'Cause sometimes learning, especially new things, it takes time and practice and repetition.
- [Jim] I often need to hear things a few times before they sink in.
Yes.
- Yeah.
Yeah, cool.
I love that!

I was just talking to Jim, but guess what?
It's now time for Jim Time!
(upbeat music) - I've got Sparky here with me today, and he has been having a hard time getting to sleep.
He's actually been up all night.
So I'm hoping that viewers, you have ideas of something that helps you go to sleep.
'Cause, you know, sometimes you just, you know, usually people have a routine.
Sparky, do you have a routine?
Yeah, so sometimes it helps to have a routine to help you get to sleep.
Right?
- Yeah.
- But I thought maybe somebody has some ideas of different things that can help you go to sleep, and then maybe we can help him out.
- Yeah.
- So the darkness.
Yes.
Turn out the lights.
That is a good first step.
All right, I'm gonna write this down.
"Music."
Okay.
I'm sorry.
I don't know if I missed one.
I wasn't looking up.
Okay, music.
- "Blanket."
Blanket, it was this one.
- A blanket.
- A good snuggly blanket.
Mm.
I'm getting cozy already.

- Sometimes it's right.
It's too hot, you need a fan.
- Yeah.
And the sound is soothing.
- Right?
That helps too.

- All right, cat.

These are great suggestions.

Yeah, I need a couple more.

- All right, (pen thuds) I have a lullaby that we will sing to you now, Sparky, with these ideas.
And maybe, just maybe they will work.

- Yeah.

- Yeah.

- [Jim] I always like pickles.
So it's good to see pickles on the list.
- Yes, those go good on a sandwich.
Oh, I see a pig.
There's a pig listed on the bottom.
Oh, it just moved a little bit.
Oh, man.
I'm gonna go real fast as soon as it, here we go.
Pistachios and pancakes and porcupines, oh, my.
Pots and pans and pajamas and pickles, and a penguin and a panda.
Ooh, purse was just added to the list.

That's a game you can play anytime.
Pick a letter, set a timer, or play a song or something.
And you figure out how many words start with that letter, and then see where it goes, yeah.
Okay, friends, I love books.
I just love books so much!
And I wonder what book we're gonna hear about today.
- I do want to go to bed because I know there's nothing more important than a good night's sleep.
But first, I need to check out this book.
(upbeat music) - I have the most perfect book to share with you today.
It is called "Grab Your Pillow, Armadillo."
So as you go through this book, you're gonna find lots of rhyming words and different animals that are all sharing special good night routines and greetings.
So this is the most awesome book to share with grandparents, and caregivers, and moms and dads, and your littles that are in your life because it will help you come up with your most favorite bedtime routine as well.
And the best part is every single page has a flap to lift, and a perfect picture underneath.

Man, that book, that's like, "See you later, Alligator," right?
I wonder if we could come up with more.

- (gasps) Nice.

Okay, I'll stay focused, Jim.
But I'm inspired by that.
I get inspired by so many of the things we do on the show, I tell ya.

Ah, there's the ocean!

We turned around the boat.
There's my pillow.
There's the dolphin.
The ninjas are leading the way.
Oh!
There's a penguin!
The penguin's waving, it's like, this way.
Maybe the, I think the ninja's called the penguin for help.
That's great.
And I wonder if the ninjas are also guiding the way through the water in case there was like some challenges along the way, yeah.
Ooh.

Man, this is fun finding out ideas for titles.

Yeah, that totally makes sense.
All of these, there's so many possibilities with how to be creative.
We work on the writing, we work on the illustrations, and how to visualize it.
We work on the title, the details, the word choice.
Jim, we could make it a song too, right?
- [Jim] Sure.
Especially with you being sing-songy today.
- I am sing-songy.
Okay, let me see.

We've gone through all kinds of words.
Now look around.
Maybe you've already seen something.
But if you haven't looked around yet, look around for something that starts with the letter P. Find something soft, and find something that you use at night.
Hey, Jim, you wanna go first?
Have you found any of these things?
- Sure, I have found a little puppet.
(Wimee gasps) That starts with P. - Love it.
- I've got this pillow here that is very, very, very soft.
- It looks soft.
- And Sparky always likes to have a big pitcher of water by his bedside in case he gets thirsty.
- Thirsty.
That's perfect to have.
- So you don't have to get outta bed.
He's, "I need a drink."
Right?
(Wimee laughs) Ever hear that with the kids?
- Yeah, be prepared.
Right?
- I need a drink of water.
Right.
- And hey, pitcher starts with P. Did you say pitcher starts with P?
- Pitcher starts with P. So does pillow.
- And pillow.
- [Jim] All three of ours started with P. - I love it.

Pillow starts with P. It's soft and you can use it at night.

Perfect.
Yes, 'cause then if you need a, if you're like, "I'm in the dark, I can't see," then you can turn on the lamp like, oh, purse starts with P. A blanket is soft.
And a book is something you use at night.
Read the book before you go to sleep.
The book, and actually the blanket and book could be interchangeable with soft.
No, I guess.
No, the book wouldn't be soft.
(laughs) I was just thinking about all those possibilities.
- [Jim] They do make soft books though.
- For real?
- [Jim] Yeah, for toddlers, I think, they have a lot of soft books.
- Oh, yeah.
- Soft cover.
- Oh, that's true.
That's true.

- [Jim] They're made of fabric.
- Oh, I have seen some of those books.
That's right.
Well, Jim, this has been a great show.

- [Jim] Well, yeah, just Moby telling us that they used to use rocks for pillows.
That doesn't sound like a good idea, but I guess you gotta start somewhere, right?

'Cause I know I've done that when I'm outside at a park, like there's like, maybe just something like, oh, this is kinda, you kinda lean up against it, and you're like, oh, I can just snuggle right in here.
- That's true.
- Right?
- [Jim] Right.
You work with what you got.
- Yes, exactly.
I love it.

I was sing-songy.

I have a lot of pillows.

- [Jim] I do, yeah.
I have one that like, every night I need that pillow to rest my head on.
If it's not my favorite pillow, doesn't work.
- I hear you.
"What is your pillow like?"
Oh, it's very soft.
It's pretty big.
It's just big enough to fit my head around.
And this is what it would look like if I used it.
