(uptempo bright music) - Pioneer Theatre Company presents the Utah premiere of the four-time Tony-nominated musical, "Waitress."
And here with more details is Artistic Director Karen Azenberg.
Karen, hi, welcome back.
- Thank you.
- It's always fun to have you and hear about all the shows there.
- It's the end of our season, I can't believe it, already.
- I know, I know.
And for the finale, you are doing the musical, "Waitress."
- "Waitress," Sara Bareilles.
It's very exciting.
That score is so great and if you're a fan of her music, you know, this is like everything you'd ever want.
An evening and a story and singing and dancing.
Perfect.
- (laughs) All of it.
And tell us about the actress playing Jenna.
- Claire, Claire Saunders.
So, Claire is an amazing artist, beautiful singer, gorgeous person.
And the fun part about Claire is Claire is a twin, and her twin Alana was here last year playing Bonnie in "Bonnie and Clyde."
So she looks familiar, she is, but she hasn't been here before.
(both laughing) - But you are bringing back people who have been here before who'll be in the cast.
- Yeah, there are six principal returning people, which is kind of a crazy number.
People who've been here for "Something Rotten," and "Bonnie and Clyde," and Bill Perry who was in "Newsies."
So it's gonna be familiar faces doing completely different kinds of stuff, - Which is great.
And for people who maybe did not see the movie it was based on, give us the plot.
- So Jenna works in a diner and she's got some friends who work with her in a diner, but she's in a difficult marriage and she finds a new love interest and she also finds a new love career interest that might have to do with pies.
(Mary laughs) - [Mary] I love that.
- Diner, pies.
You know, it works great.
- [Mary] Oh.
- So it will taste good and be enjoyable.
(Karen laughs) - [Mary] Oh, that's great.
And blessed are the pie makers.
- That- - [Mary] Anyway, thank you.
- A good crust is everything.
- (laughs) Thank you so much for being here.
Thanks.
- Sure.
- And if you'd like to know more about the season finale at Pioneer Theatre Company, "Waitress," it's May 2nd through 17th.
