(bright music) - Salt Lake Acting Company is bringing back the musical comedy horror sensation, "Bat Boy the Musical" after 21 years.
And here to tell us more is actor Robert Scott Smith.
Hey Robert, welcome.
- Hi, Mary, thanks for having me this week.
- Yeah, I'm excited.
I already have my tickets by the way.
So you were in this 21 years ago?
- Yes, I had the privilege of playing the role of Bat Boy 21 years ago, and it was such a wonderful experience and it was really life-changing for me as an actor to have a chance to really do something so epic and impactful in my career and to come back into a different role is just a gift, truly a gift.
- That's great, so who are you this time?
- This time I gotta play Dr. Parker.
So I'm the town veterinarian who tries to help Bat Boy find Acceptance in Hope Falls, Virginia.
- Alright, so, I mean, of course this is like a campy musical extravaganza and you are saying...
I mean, it's a really big show.
- Yeah, it's quite a big musical.
I mean, it covers a lot of genres and musical styles.
It has a lot of really heightened comedy and really impactful roles and our chorus, the ensemble members, they play several characters throughout, so they're popping in and out of characters even on stage.
It's really a lot of work for all of us.
- And a lot of fun for the audience, yeah, yeah.
So kind of tell me like briefly, what's the plot?
- Well, the whole story started from World Weekly News, a satirical, sensational kind of weekly magazine that created this character, Bat Boy, half boy, half human.
And this character has been musicalized and he's discovered in a small town and the town tries to find acceptance, but it's hard to accept him in the town.
And so you'll watch this journey of this character.
- I can't wait, well, thank you so much for coming on, thank you.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about "Bat Boy the Musical", it is coming to Salt Lake Acting Company.
It will be there April 9th through May 4th.

I'm Mary Dickson, thanks for watching Contact.
