Plymouth State's a huge part of the community.
That's how I came to Plymouth in 1999.
Steve Bamford hired me to coach basketball, and one of the things I wanted to go win a national championship.
You know, budgets are limited.
So I just started fundraising, you know, with my athletic directors permission from running summer basketball camps to clinics to raffle tickets to you name it.
Soliciting our basketball alums to support us so we could have nice gear, pregame meals for nutrition.
Travel once every four years to Florida because that's a big part of recruiting.
And, so I actually got I only wanted to do it.
So my team had everything.
Long story short, in 2007, there was an opening, for a major gift.
Officer.
And my Athletic Director at the time said, John, why don't you try this for a year?
Sabbatical.
I was like, what are you, nuts?
I'm you know, mid 40s, height of my game said, okay, well, we'll try it for you.
I didn't even know what a major gift officer job was.
Responsible for raising money.
So Plymouth State students can afford to go to college.
The gift of education is priceless.
And I never apologize for raising money for these deserving students.
Always mentoring, always teaching.
There's an expression if you're really good, you don't have to ask because people want to give because they know you care.
So, you know, we we change lives, and we know education change lives.
And at a school like Plymouth, it changes the cycle of families fortunes two and three fold, as opposed to maybe some other schools where it's once or none over because the families are already established in our in our country financially.
The only criteria is good academic standing.
And, it's been a lifesaver for our students.
I always thought my legacy at Plymouth was going to be coaching basketball.
You know, proud at my legacy is going to be helping students and kids change their lives, making college affordable and all the lives I've mentored over the years.
