How to Watch Our Hometown
Our Hometown is available to stream on pbs.org and the free PBS App, available on iPhone, Apple TV, Android TV, Android smartphones, Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Fire Tablet, Roku, Samsung Smart TV, and Vizio.
We had a physical farmer's market outside at the senior center, but didn't get enough traffic for the farmers to keep wanting to come back every week.
So that part of it kind of fizzled out.
And then right before Covid, local foods permit had almost no money left in the bank.
It was going to close.
And then Covid happened.
And Local Foods Plymouth, the entire model had to change.
And so curbside pickup had to become priority.
And, how it works is the website opens Saturdays at noon, and you can order anything you'd like that the farmers put up for that week that's available from them and food like producers.
So we have even Cafe Monte Alto in their coffee or Mad River coffee house Fired on the Mountain.
You know, these are people making prepared foods and meals.
So that plus farmers, plus bakers.
So you can go online, shop like you would anywhere else, add it to your cart checkout and then, the site closes Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m., and, the farmers Thursday drop off to us at Local Foods Plymouth.
Everything that's been ordered.
We have very a bunch of volunteers that come every week to help out, which is a huge part of Local Foods.
Plymouth is the community support in the volunteers that come to help with this effort.
So they come help pack the orders and then customers come from 330 to 530 to pick up, and we just put it in the back of their car.
It's difficult to want to go back to the physical, and a lot of the farmers and food producers do also do farmer's markets, but they love this model because of what you're saying, that there's no waste involved.
What's ordered is what's delivered, and they're not sitting in the beating sun, you know, in August just watching their greens wilt away as they sit there not being purchase.
So there's a lot less waste involved in this kind of model.
This is what it evolved into and then remained because it's been so successful and we've stayed successful since Covid.
You know, those customers enjoyed the curbside model and they continue to order.
And it's you know, we've changed location.
And so since the tent, we had last year, thanks to our wonderful community who donated funds for it and volunteers helped build a big local foods Plymouth Pavilion.
All that was volunteer and community effort, which is, like, so heartwarming to know that people still want that connection to local food, you know, and that's to see that that's still important to this community is awesome.
